*Colin*
“No.” For the umpteenth time I refused Hadi's invitation to vacation in Bali with him. “Dira has experienced many problems, I do not want to add it again.”
“He brought a lot of friends, when I only went three with Wyatt and Adi? I paid for this trip I should have brought a lot of friends. And you know that my best friend is just you,” persuaded Hadi again.
“My answer remains no, Hadi.”
“Aren't you planning to go back with him again? I gave you a wide path to be with him for longer. Are you sure you don't want to come?” tanya Hadi has not given up. “Good. Don't blame me if there later he meets a more handsome boule than you and falls in love. Dira is fragile, so I know whoever cares for her will get her heart. Too bad, that guy wasn't my best friend.”
Hadi is a real jerk. I can't say no every time he persuades me to do what I don't want. This trip was a disaster, I already knew it. Because Dira's mood will be bad during our vacation. But imagining another foreign man approaching her while in Bali, I was forced to participate. Dira is only mine.
“What is Hadi sure this is a good idea? Why would Hendra and Zahara let them go?” ask Dad confused. “Dira must be sad. What if someone mocks him there?”
“Dira will be fine, Dad. He was used to disguising himself in public. I'm sure he'll wear glasses and a hat to cover his identity. So, no one will recognize her,” Lily said chimed in.
“Lily's right. Anyway this is what we've been waiting for all this time. Colin can be close again to Dira during the holidays later.” Mama blinked one eye at me. I groaned slowly. “Don't waste this golden opportunity, Colin. Hadi invites you means he allows you to approach his sister again.”
“I don't allow my son to approach a girl to hurt her again.” Dad looked at me and looked at me seriously. “Do not approach him again if you are not sure you can take better care of him than before.”
I didn't agree or respond to Dad's warning. Let alone Dad, I myself am not sure of my ability to take care of him. I have failed once, I will definitely fail again. Our relationship of a dozen years can be destroyed just like that, how can I maintain our new relationship later?
“Until you're gonna put that face on? Where did the Colin I know so confidently go?” Lily nodded in disbelief. “You're young, it's only natural to make a lot of mistakes. You're not the only ones who are dating, and then cut off the relationship. Go, Colin. Determine your next move. Do you want Dira back to you or not?”
“Yep. You've been trying to get sorry from his family. Zahara even involved you in the work of his new book. After you gain the trust of Hadi again, you will let go of this opportunity just like that?” mama asked half mockingly.
Mama and Lily easily said all that. For they are not against Dira, but me. My fear was evident when Dira stared intently at me at the airport. He whispered to Hadi to express his protest. I don't need to have super hearing to know what he's talking about.
His mood was bad as we waited for the flight, as well as during his stay in the cabin. He crossed his hands in front of his chest and did not smile at all. This is not what I wanted to happen to her. I want to see him happy, laugh, and enjoy every single thing he does, starting with his departure.
He needs this vacation. After a bad event happened to her, she needed to be in a place that could make her forget all her problems for a moment. I was one of the problems that broke his heart.
“Stop looking towards my sister.” Hadi elbowed my arm. “He will not be lost in the plane. And that attitude of yours will make him uncomfortable.”
“What is the difference between me and you? Clarissa won't be missing from the plane either,” I said I don't want to lose. She thought I didn't notice that she occasionally glanced at her ex.
“The three of us are really losers, yes. We can't keep three girls who mean so much in our lives.” Wyatt chuckled softly at the thought of his stupidity.
“The three of us? You two are the losers here. I didn't leave him, cheat, or betray him behind. Clarissa herself who wants to end our relationship.” Hadi defended himself and we cannot argue that, because he was right.
“You did not make the mistake we did. But if you are serious about loving her, why don't you fight?” wyatt said he didn't want to lose. “Clarissa is afraid of ruining your reputation and your family. Why don't you convince him that what he's worried about isn't going to happen? Why do you keep quiet when he ends your relationship?
“See me. Although Charlotte still refused my presence, I stayed in their home. No matter how long it takes for her to forgive me, I am still here for her. I didn't run, Hadi.”
“I didn't run, Wyatt. But this self-esteem that I still have, does not allow me to beg her to come back to me. You know why? Because I'm innocent. If he's this easy to let me go, what if bigger problems hit our relationship? Or if we're married? Papa not only has friends, he also has many enemies out there.”
“Your own fault tried to argue it.” I shook my head slowly. “I chose silence because I knew he would argue well.”
“Do you know why Dira is not interested in returning to you?” ask Wyatt to me.
“So, after losing to Hadi, you are trying to argue with me?”
“Because you think he's still a child.” Wyatt raised both eyebrows.
“It's not true. I never—” said I defended myself.
“You officially became my best friend, Wyatt,” Hadi gave his fist to Wyatt to do a fist greeting. Now I'm the one who's pissed off.
Dira's mood got better when we were in the car to Uncle Brady's inn. I heard many stories about him and his wife, but I had never met them. Ever since they got married, they lived on this island and opened a business.
When they welcomed us, I immediately knew that the woman who was being so friendly was Aunt Dafhina. He is very similar to Aunt Darla, his mother. Not only his physique, his kindness was also similar.
After lunch together at the poolside gazebo, we were escorted by a male employee to our room. The first two doors on the third floor were rooms for the girls, while our room had to turn on the left. The first two rooms are our rooms.
Of course Hadi was one room with his sister, so Wyatt and I got the same room. The room consists of two one-bed beds. Wyatt immediately darted to pick up the bed that was close to the window. I shook my head to see him drop himself into that bed.
To save electricity, I opened the door to the balcony. We were in a place surrounded by trees and plants, so I'm sure the air wasn't hot. And my guess is right. The view under the balcony is very green.
I looked to my left when I felt a movement from there. And I met Dira's eyes. I smiled at him. Instead of returning my smile, he pouted and went back into his room. But the door was left open.
“Wah, Colin. Your struggle is still long.” Wyatt put his hand on my shoulder. I sighed loudly hearing his ridicule. “But you are lucky. From the window of this room, you can watch over him secretly. He won't run away like he did.”
“Do you think I'm a spy?” I pulled her hand off my shoulder and walked back to the room. “There's time to rest before we go. So, don't disturb my sleep.”
At three o'clock in the afternoon, Wyatt and I headed to the dining room to enjoy a snack. There are many snack options available. We are welcome to take it ourselves. Hadi and Adi came later as we sat down and enjoyed a snack and a cup of coffee.
“Hai!” I heard a very friendly voice on my right side. I looked over and saw two girls standing by our table. “Can we sit with you?”
“Sorry, beautiful. Both of these seats already have people,” replied Wyatt with Indonesian language that is still affected by his American dialect.
“Oh. Waw! Do you speak Indonesian? That's so cool!” say the second girl. That sentence is very strange. But realizing that Wyatt and I were strangers, I finally understood why they greeted me in English. “Ah, my name is Irna. And this is my friend, Ajeng.”
“We will stay at this hotel until Sunday. Hopefully next time we can sit together.” The first girl added. “See you later!”
“See you later,” reply Wyatt friendly. I kicked his leg under the table. “Aw!”
“Jaga your attitude, Wyatt. Lest any girl think that we are single men,” I said seriously.
Wyatt was stunned for a moment. He looked at me without blinking or saying anything. Then suddenly he laughed. “Colin, are you drunk on coffee? Open your eyes well. You and I are single men!” He laughed again loudly.
