He's The Unaffordable

He's The Unaffordable
Chapter 44 - Only Friends

“Papa did the right thing by asking you to stay with us,” Hadi said as we were already in the car. “The man knows you live in this place, then chances are he had someone follow you or he observed your movements that night.”

I was very careful and I was sure no one was following me. Is it possible that he knew because I was on campus? Why does that man want me? That part I don't understand. If she loves Aunt Abby, then what does she want from me? The woman he loved has died. Why is he trying to separate me from my family?

Aunt Lindsey's family and Aunt Claudia look good. I know that being a good person doesn't mean that no one is hostile to us. But killing their son and daughter-in-law, then separating them from their grandchildren, isn't that very cruel? Why is he doing all this? What benefit did he get from our suffering?

“Hey, are you okay?” I jumped back in surprise when I felt my hand being touched. “Mila, what dreamy is your hobby?” tanya Hadi was half teasing.

“Stop teasing me, Hadi.” I look around us. His car stopped right in front of his house. A man was waiting by my door. “Oh. We have arrived.”

“Therefore I call you so that you stop daydreaming.” He chuckled as he opened the car door by his side. The man standing by my side opened the door for me.

Hadi carried my backpack, while the other man who also welcomed us brought my suitcase. No more family members are awake or maybe they have activities in their respective rooms. A man called Mr. Abdi led us to a room on the second floor.

The room they chose for me was huge. The color that dominates the room is neutral so it does not give the impression of being feminine or masculine. The cream color is mixed with white and dark brown. There were two doors to the right of the room and a large window in front of me. The bed is near the wall on the left.

Hadi opened one of the doors on the right side of the room. “This is a clothing room. You can put your clothes here or if you do not want to bother, your suitcase can be placed on this sideboard.” Then he opened the door next to her. “And this is the bathroom. Available hot and cold water, you just pay attention to the tap.”

“Thank you very much. This room is huge. Are all the rooms in this house this big?” I'm still surprised.

“Only rooms on this floor. The servants' rooms downstairs were not this big, but it was convenient for them to stay. Do you need anything? It's drinking water and snacks who knows you're hungry and thirsty later. I'm in the room on the right when you need me.”

“Ng, everything I need seems to be available. I'll be fine, thank you. I just need a break so as not to be late to campus tomorrow.” I smiled at him. “Thank you for today, Hadi. Good night.”

“Goodnight.” He placed his right hand on my lower back, then kissed my temple. My body froze feeling a touch that close. He who suddenly stopped moving must also feel the same way. “Ah, forgive me. I didn't mean ... I ..”

“Ti-it's okay. Ng, I-I'm going to the bathroom to clean myself.” I distanced myself from him awkwardly. He also took a step back. To the bathroom. What the hell am I thinking? Don't I have any more elegant reasons?

“I-iya. I'm back in my room now. Good night.” He rushes to open the door, exits the room, and then closes it again.

I stared at the door for a moment. When I felt my face heat up, I touched both of my cheeks and my guess was correct. My face and neck are warm. Then I laughed a little. Hadi who is usually calm, cold, and always calculating can turn out to be wrong behavior as well.

Today is a very emotional day. I don't know why he kissed me just now, but I don't feel angry or object to it. Not just a kiss, today he touches me quite often whenever the opportunity arises. Holding my hand or arm as I daydreamed, and he seemed to deliberately linger touching me. He also found me staring at me quite often when our eyes met.

Ah, it's impossible. It must be just my feeling. What he did today was impossible because he had a special interest in me. We're just friends. He himself often confirmed it through his words or reply to my message. Yeah, we're just friends.

Staying at their house is so much fun. Not only his parents and younger brother, the entire staff working in their home was also very kind and friendly. I was treated the same way they served Hadi's family. Sometimes I feel bad every time they make me a drink or a snack.

Every afternoon after college and studying, Charlotte always invited me to meet her. We ate together and talked about a lot of things. Of course he is the one who dominates the conversation. Hadi and Wyatt who seemed to have been used to his attitude did not protest at all. They even look comfortable eating their food.

Since the incident that happened on the first night I stayed at their house, Hadi's attitude towards me was very careful. He put both his hands behind his body every time we went hand in hand. If I daydreamed and he wanted to attract my attention, then he would wave his hand in front of my face. Funniest of all, he always puts distance whenever we talk while standing. Maybe he wanted to prevent himself from doing any more recklessness.

“How, Pa? Any word from Aunt Claudia?” asked Hadi as we had breakfast together on that thrilling morning.

“They will tell you the result immediately after they confirm a few things first. Claudia and Lindsey are also impatient to know what the test results are,” replied Om Hendra, making my heart beat faster. I still have to wait for the results.

I was not aware that the impact of a piece of paper test results would be that big. All I thought about was meeting my family and not living a long life without an identity anymore. I forgot who this family is going to be. Although they can't wait to make sure that I'm a long-lost member of their family, they should also be careful about public opinion and the issues that will arise later about who my biological parents are.

Hadi promised to let me know when the results were known. His father will send him a message. Therefore, throughout the lecture, I fret when every second passes, the phone in my bag does not vibrate.

Even after discussing with my supervising lecturer about the flaws I needed to correct on my research proposal, he did not also give any news. I waited in the library until the appointment time we met in the parking lot. He would pick up his sisters from their school, then we had lunch together.

I tidied up my book and took the bag I had left in daycare, and then walked out of the study. I can't do anything at all because my mind is full of DNA test results that I haven't heard of yet.

“Hai, Mila,” greet Colin with a meaningful smile adorning his face. I frowned, looking at him suspiciously. She laughs. “You're so mean to your fake boyfriend. Why are you staring at me like that? Is it so hard to return my greeting?”

“You have made me a bad person, it's only natural that I behave carefully with you,” I said giving an explanation. He nodded in understanding. I looked towards Hadi.

“Ah, okay. Looks like you have another secret affair with my best friend.” Colin patted Hadi's shoulder. “I'm gone. See you tomorrow.” Hadi nodded his head.

“How?” I was impatient when Colin was far enough away from us. “Do you have any news?”

“Not yet. Papa hasn't contacted me or sent me a message—” He was stunned for a moment, then reached into his pants pocket. His phone shook and he touched the screen before putting it in his ear. I watched his face carefully, but he gave no clue as to what the caller was saying.

“Is that Om Hendra calling?” I can't wait as soon as the conversation is over.

“Iya.” Again he did not give me a clue through his facial expression.

“What's he saying? How's the test result?”

*******

Meanwhile in a house, a few hours ago~

Men and women walked back and forth from the lower floors to the upper floors carrying boxes of various sizes. Everything was placed in a room full of opened boxes. The contents are arranged neatly in the clothing room as well as the bathroom in the room.

“Are you sure she likes blue?” claudia asked in disbelief. He looked around him with a frown.

“Yakin, Grandma. Blue as his eyes. Why does Grandma keep asking the same question? If Grandma doesn't believe me, just ask Hadi.” Charlotte put the hanger where there was a white dress covered in plastic on the iron that was in the clothing room. There are various models of dresses and dresses on the iron hanger.

“This room so impressed room is male, not female,” said Claudia dissatisfied.

“We can change the color of furniture and wallpaper if Mila prefers another color, Claudia. It's only for a while. Although I'm sure, he'll like everything we've prepared. The child does not seem to be a picky person.” Lindsey closed the mini vault containing jewelry, then turned the key wheel so that it could not be opened.

“Grandma and Grandma don't know the test results yet, don't all these preparations be too fast?” charlotte asked confusedly. Lindsey and Claudia exchanged looks. “Not that I don't want Mila to be my sister. I really hope she's Clarissa. But after the first test result, it could be that the second test will also show the same result.”

“I don't care about the test results.” Claudia smiling. “If it turns out he is not Clarissa, we agreed to adopt him to be our grandson.”
