He's The Unaffordable

He's The Unaffordable
Chapter 56 - Enemy in a Blanket

Wyatt sat on the sofa in front of me. He looked around us, but avoided my eyes. I waited for him to calm his surprise. There are a lot of things we need to talk about alone before I discuss all of this with the adults. It's a big problem I can't decide for myself.

“My parents and Charlotte's grandparents have been best friends for a long time. But I'm not close to them. So, when I met Finn at an event with my parents, I just believed in everything he said about Grandpa Mason and Grandma Claudia,” Wyatt said.

“He hates them because Aunt Abby, his ex, left him after he gave his all for his happiness. Homes, apartments, cars, jewelry, even many other gifts. His company was on the verge of bankruptcy. And that news can easily be found on the internet. So, I trust him.

“I don't remember how he did it, but I feel the same hatred towards Grandpa Mason and Grandma Claudia. I hated them because they were so close to my parents. They are business partners. I started to worry that our company would go bankrupt because of them. So I decided to destroy the family first.

“Charlotte has been living in America since she was twelve, but I never met her. Finn gave me an idea of how to repay the White family. Damaging their reputation through their grandchildren. Charlotte is a good girl. Even though he had life problems, he was unwilling to touch liquor, drugs, or live a free life. I can't make her into a drunk, an addict, or out of wedlock.

“It was our original plan. I'm in love with Charlotte and serious about our relationship. I'm not gonna hurt him like I planned and Finn knows it. He couldn't accept my decision and threatened to tell everyone about the cooperation between us.” He was silent for a moment. “I love Charlotte, Hadi. Lovely love her.”

I believe he loves my best friend because he shows it by giving an explanation in Indonesian. He must have learned so hard that he could speak this surf and not use his mother tongue at all.

“It's not me you have to convince, Wyatt. Your business with Charlotte is none of my business. But once you hurt him, then it becomes an affair between us.” I looked at him seriously. “What does the man want from Clarissa?”

“I don't know. All I know is, she hates this family and doesn't want to see them happy. He didn't go into any detail about Clarissa. How did he kidnap her, who had been taking care of her all this time, nil.” He shook his head slowly.

“Then what are your next plans? Keep acting innocent and get engaged to Charlotte without telling her why you approached her and your relationship with Finley?” aska I want to know.

“He will reject me, Hadi. He won't be able to forgive me if he finds out all this.” He looked at me with a pleading look.

“You must tell everything to him and this family. If you don't do it before your engagement tomorrow, I'll unmask you. And don't run. I hate men who don't want to account for his actions.” I could hear the voices of the women outside the door.

Not long after, the door opened and Charlotte first entered. Her face was so cheerful when she saw Wyatt. He immediately sat by her side and wrapped his hands around the young man's arms. I can already imagine the state of chaos when he admits everything later.

Charlotte asked, but Wyatt immediately switched the subject. He still has time until tomorrow afternoon, so I didn't cut the sentence. They discussed the final preparations for tomorrow's event, so I just listened. Feeling someone touch my hand, I looked up. Clarissa was looking at me questioningly. I just smiled while shaking my head.

I left a few minutes later to pick up my sister from their school. Aunt Claudia gave me snacks to eat my two sisters on the way home. Clarissa took me to the front yard of her house.

“You all right? Your attitude with Wyatt changed a little.” We were standing on the side of my car. “Did something happen while you were alone.”

“You better ask him. I don't have the right to tell other people's secrets. Thank you for driving me.” I came closer and kissed her cheek. He took a surprised breath. “Until tomorrow.”

“Sa-till tomorrow.” I smiled seeing her pale face turn as red as a tomato.

I can't imagine what will happen tomorrow when Wyatt admits everything. I really hope he does today. The fewer people involved the less drama will be shown. For sure I won't let her get engaged to Charlotte without telling the truth.

Adi was already waiting on his favorite bench when I came. He was engrossed in playing with his cell phone to the point of not paying attention to the girl sitting by his side. I'm sure she likes it because I see her talking to my sister a lot.

We walked to Dira's school. I saw him talking to a young man. The person he said gave him the first love letter that caused the guyonan not funny. I don't know who had the stupid idea of trying to embarrass my sister by making a special box that could be filled with love letters addressed to her.

“Meanings Sister, Jordan?” ask Dira while putting on the seat belt. I nodded in agreement. “I'm friends with everyone, not just with him.”

“But from his gestures, he considers you more than friends,” said Adi chimed in. He said what I was thinking.

“I told Dira too. But he doesn't trust me. Even lately Jordan looks changed. She no longer wears glasses and she changes her hairstyle. Previously, he looked like an innocent young man, now he looks like a model,” said Wendy.

“You guys seem to be afraid that something might happen to me. Don'worry. I can take care of myself. If you think I'm gonna fall in love with her, forget about it. I want to focus on my school and the boys are not in my plans going forward. After all these exams are done, I just want to focus on my work as a model,” Dira said firmly.

“Women like us are weak with attention. Are you sure you won't fall in her arms if she keeps being that friendly to you?” wendy Goda.

“Jordan is not my type.” man Dira fluttered his hands like driving insects away from his face. “What is this, Brother?” He took the box between us.

“Snacks from Aunt Claudia.” I just smiled realizing he had deliberately switched the subject of our conversation.

As usual, we drove Wendy to her workplace cafe before heading home. I handed the car keys to Pak Sakti, then followed my sisters into the house. Mr. Abdi told us not to make a fuss because Mama's mood was bad.

Hearing that, the three of us exchanged looks. There is only one thing that can make you so, or rather one person. We walked up the stairs in silence in the hope that Mama would not know our return, but the door of the room in particular was open.

“I can't believe this!” mama shouted in annoyance. With her moist eyes and reddened face, I knew that she had just cried. “Papa you have made me very disappointed. I'm disappointed he's made me miss an offer to be a screenwriter!”

My brother and I exchanged looks. Lost was already the opportunity to run away and rest for a while in the room. We walked up to Mama and hugged her. We took her back to her study, then sat down together. Yuyun's mother came to bring us warm drinks and snacks.

My dad always supported whatever I wanted to do in his life. Always was. If Papa forbids Mama from doing anything, then that means there is something suspicious from people who want to work with him. Papa always checks the background and history of the cooperation of an agent, publisher, or anything else that comes close to us. Because of that, Dira and Mama's modeling career as a writer rose rapidly.

The drama continues when Papa comes home from work. Mama refused to talk to him alone in their room, but Papa managed to persuade him. When we met in the dining room for dinner, they were already friendly again. My brother and I exchanged meaningful views. I love my family very much.

“Wow, Hadi. That's very bad news.” Colin and I were on the basketball court, preparing to play again with our friends. “I can't imagine Charlotte's reaction later. She's a good girl, shouldn't all this happen to her.”

I raised one of my eyebrows towards Colin. “You two are just as jerk, don't forget it.”

“I've apologized and regretted my actions. What else do you want you to stop thinking of me as a villain?” Colin sighed loudly. “I love Dira too much, that's the only reason I did all that stupidity.”

“Away from my sister, Cole. I told you, your chance is over.”

“I'm away from him. But only for a while. Once his anger has subsided, I will do anything to get his heart back.”

I looked at him in disbelief. Sometimes I ask myself, what makes me want to be the best friend of this stupid little crazy young man? “By the way, Dira is close to her one-school son's student.”
