“Waah!!” charlotte exclaimed as she got out of the car. “Finally, we arrived too! I can't wait to swim and eat your chefs delicious cuisine.”
“You should often invite us to relax here, Hadi. Moreover, the location is not far from the city.” Wyatt looked around.
Hadi helped me out of the car, then together the men took out our suitcases and took them to the villa. An elderly man and woman welcomed us. Dira's entourage who arrived first entered the house and we followed later.
The villa looks small from the outside, it turns out there is still a large room to the back. The front room is filled with sofas, tables, sideboards, and small cabinets for footwear. There are cabinets with televisions, sofas, tables, and sideboards in the living room. There was one room to my right, then two other rooms in front of me. Between the main room and the two rooms there is a dining room and a kitchen. To my left is a glass door that shows the swimming pool next to the house.
Although not as big as their home in Jakarta, this villa can not be said to be small. Especially when Hadi pointed to the room on my right as our room for women. The bed was large, there was a sofa set complete with a table, a wardrobe, and a door that I was sure there was a bathroom behind it. This must be the room Om Hendra and Aunt Zahara used when staying.
“Quick, change your clothes if you want to swim!” Charlotte took her swimsuit out of the suitcase, then darted towards the bathroom. I just shook my head.
Lily went swimming with him, while I just sat in the lounge chair looking at them. Wyatt, Adi and Luca were already in the pool. Colin sat with Dira not far from me. A woman came carrying a tray with a plate filled with bananas and fried cassava, followed by Hadi who brought a container of water filled with warm tea and several empty glasses.
After putting down the dishes, he returned to the house with two empty trays. Hadi gave me a glass, then sat in the same chair as me. I knew that we were faking it, but I just knew she would be as brave as this acting in front of everyone. It is not only Luca who is in this place, but also our brother.
I straightened my seat and lowered my legs so we could sit side by side. With this position, then Luca will not be able to see Hadi's facial expression. Just my face. So, I don't have to worry about how Hadi expresses as long as I can maintain my happy face.
“Because you kissed me last night and your sister can't wait to tell everyone, Mama is hysterical and thinks we're getting married soon,” Hadi whispered.
I looked at him in disbelief. “You lied.” Since he had to get closer to being able to whisper to me, my eyes glanced towards his lips. Concentrate, Clarissa. Look him in the eye, not his lips, or you'll make a mistake again like last night.
“Kiss from lips to lips is a big thing for our family. Dira and Colin wait until they get married to do so. You should have asked me, instead of surprising me with your kiss,” protested Hadi.
“You did the same. If you don't like it, you just tell me, not kiss me again,” I said don't want to lose.
His eyes fell on my lips, but he quickly turned his eyes to mine. I smiled seeing him. “What else can I do with the presence of Luca near us? I can't possibly dismantle our own charade, ‘kan?”
“We both know, that's not why you returned my kiss, Hadi,” I said quietly.
“I agree to Papa's proposal to accompany Dira to this place so that you do not meet with Mama. I'm sure you won't be able to answer Mama's question firmly. I could be forced to marry you in the near future and you will only answer yes.”
“It's not a bad idea. Why don't you marry me? Didn't you ever say love to me? I'm sure, you still hold the same feeling for me.” I was being reckless, I know. But he who opened this topic, I just used it.
“I don't love you anymore, Clarissa,” she said with a cold face. I felt my heart so hurt like someone squeezed it hard. So hurt. “I've given you one chance and you threw it away. Don't expect me to come back to you.”
“I confess I made a big mistake by letting go of you without giving our relationship a chance. I'm sorry I hurt you, Hadi. I'm sorry for that. But I'll be honest with you now. To you, we're just pretending. Not me. What we're going through right now is serious and I'm not acting to be your girlfriend.”
He was stunned for a moment. “Don't lie to me, Clarissa. I want us to stick to the original deal. We just pretend and once they get home, we go back to being strangers who don't know each other. Do you understand?” he said firmly. “I don't want to be in a relationship with a girl who easily ends it without feeling.”
“Charlotte!” I rebuked him with a stifled voice. He just laughed.
“Are you happy now? My whole family is noisily talking about marriage because of you,” Hadi said half-whispering. He definitely did not want that sentence to be heard by Luca.
“Hey, don't blame my sweety. He just shared his happiness with his best friend. So blame Dira if you need an outlet,” Wyatt said in defense of Charlotte.
The two of them just kept talking to tease me and Hadi. Our conversation was cut off precisely on the part that needed an explanation from me. I didn't break our relationship because I had no feelings. I did it to save his reputation and his family. Yes, I know what I did was wrong. I took the decision unilaterally without thinking about his feelings. But I didn't do it for myself.
Why would he call us strangers who don't know each other? Whatdoes thatmean? Is it not my actions that he can forgive at all that he does not want to be close to me anymore? Not gonna give me a chance to fix things? Has the love he ever had for me turned into hate?
Wyatt and Adi were so excited about putting up the tent as soon as the sun went down. Charlotte and I exchanged looks at her. Dira who sat by my sister's side groaned slowly. Hadi stood up and helped them until the tent stood up straight.
Judging from the size, we could have been inside, but in a sitting position. The tent would not be able to accommodate us nine people lying down. Moreover, we are on average large and tall. Maybe we just sat down and talked, and then slept in our rooms when it was time to rest.
“Honey, my knee is hurting, I'm not sure I'll be comfortable sitting cross-legged on the floor,” Dira said as Colin helped her to move from couch to tent.
“Who said you would sit cross-legged. There is a special chair for you, baby,” said Colin who immediately made Dira smile happily.
Wyatt took out a grill assisted by the villa guards, then they lit firewood for baking. Adi and Luca brought all the ingredients to cook and put them on the table. Charlotte helps regulate which ingredients will be baked first, which will be later. I helped and saw that all the meat and vegetables were seasoned. The sweet aroma of the spice made my stomach hungry.
We ate together inside the tent once most of the food was ripe. Only a few vegetables were freshly put into the grill. Me, Charlotte, and Lily made burgers out of available bread, fresh vegetables, and grilled meat.
“Being on the age of responsibility is not tasty, yes?” wyatt said slowly. We all looked towards him. “We are required to be independent while determining the future when we are not ready.”
“Your parents took responsibility because you were eighteen?” guess Colin.
Wyatt shook his head slowly. “I am their only child, they do not want to let me meet the needs of my own life while I am still studying. I mean, sometimes I think, if as soon as I finish college later, I'm ready enough to replace my papa.”
“Don't worry, honey. You are not alone. Hadi was also worried about the same thing even though he always acted quietly.” Charlotte glanced at Hadi.
The person in question laughed. “Just learn well on your campus. Your college is just preliminary preparation. If you want to increase your knowledge, you can continue your studies later. I plan so too. Papa says, the more you know will increase your confidence.” Hadi glanced at Charlotte. “Hopefully you are not ready in terms of replacing your papa, but already sure of your life friend's choice.”
My “Sweety is the only option I am most sure of. I don't know if I can be the best partner, but I'll try.” Wyatt embraces Charlotte. “If not, I won't bother making a big event for everyone to know that he is mine.”
“You heard that, Colin?” Dira looked towards his girlfriend. “It's new name is male. Tell everyone that your girlfriend is yours.” Colin just laughed.
“If you feel unworthy to have something, then you don't deserve to have it, Wyatt. Jefferson needed to rethink choosing someone else to be his successor. So did your father, Hadi. The person who deserves a position or anything will do anything to be able to get the right or his wish.” Luca turned his head towards me as he said the last sentence.
