*Clarissa*
Charlotte seemed so happy to welcome such an unforgettable moment in her life. Although his relationship with Wyatt has not been established for long, the two of them are inseparable. I'm happy to see them planning everything from choosing clothes to other details, to how they want the event to go.
A scene that contrasts with what Hadi and I were living on our engagement day. I just got word that I am the biological child of my grandmother's second child, they can't wait to formalize my relationship with Hadi. Just because we've been betrothed since we were kids.
I don't know what both my grandfather and grandmother were worried about to the point of doing such an important thing in a hurry, but I do know that their intentions were good. After all, Hadi and I were close enough before I knew who I really was.
“My heart is pounding waiting for tomorrow.” Charlotte put both her hands in front of her chest. She went back to sleep with me in my bed. “But I knew we would be together forever. But stepping into a more serious relationship can feel very stressful. I can't imagine what it's like to get married.”
“What do you think is not too long engaged for four years?” I'll count their time in college.
“Not a problem. Whether we were engaged or not, we agreed to get married when we were twenty-five. It was the age at which he would replace his father's position as chief director.” Charlotte twisted her body so we lay facing each other. “Later to college, he plans to continue his studies while working. So, we still couldn't get married before she was twenty-five.”
“You've even planned everything that far?” I just don't believe it. She laughs.
“Of course. He's the sole heir, so he already knows what his life plan is in the long run. Before you came back, I did too. Grandpa wants me to take his place. Since you are already here, I am sure you will be prepared by Grandpa to replace his position later.” He blinked one eye.
“What do you mean? I'm just an ordinary person who has never touched your world. How could Grandpa appoint me to replace him?” My heart was beating a little faster. The burden is too heavy for me to bear. I'm not sure I'll be able to stay in a foreign land for a long time, let alone lead a large corporation.
“Do not be afraid so. This is just my guess.” Charlotte laughed amusedly. “You are engaged to Hadi, then it is likely that you will live in Indonesia. Om Hendra would not agree if his son went far away from him, because he was his main heir. Adi will not accept her brother's position. He prefers to live a relaxed life without loads.”
“Hadi and Wyatt are very similar. They are very serious about accepting their role as family successors. That's why when he went to college here with me, I was so surprised. He had already chosen which campus to attend later, but he gave up that golden opportunity to be with me.” Charlotte smiled happily.
“You must love him very much,” I said slowly. His smile grew wider and I saw a red tinge on both of his cheeks.
“Because he loved me first.” Charlotte put my hand on the bed, in front of my face. “I lost a lot of things since I was a kid, Clarissa. Although Grandpa, Grandma, Grandpa, and Grandma gave me affection, I knew something was lacking. Maybe you don't know this, but it took Grandma quite a while to be able to accept the departure of Mama and you. Grandma did not stop grieving either. I am surrounded by unhappy people.
“When Grandma was able to accept Mama's departure, I was asked to come to continue school in America. They want to take turns babysitting me. Of course I accept it with pleasure, because I want to stay away from an environment that reminds me a lot of loss.” His sad face turned happy. “And I'm so happy to be there.”
“I made friends with more people, took a lot of activities in school, and I often visited the lab and medical device provider company owned by Grandpa. Then when I was SMU, I met Wyatt. She was a little crazy for chasing me, even though I told her I didn't want to date at school.
“He seemed to be talking to Grandpa and Grandma, so they encouraged me to give him a chance. Seeing his perseverance, I also crumbled. She had everything I dreamed of in my dream man, Clarissa. I fell in love so deeply with her. Everything he did was like a dream too beautiful to be real. Aw!”
“It's real, Charlotte.” I laughed amusedly. He returned my pinches so I complained of pain. We then laughed together. “I'm happy to see you happy.”
“And I want you to be happy with Hadi too. But if you don't feel anything for her until Grandma comes back later, don't force yourself to stay with her. After what you have experienced in your life, you deserve to be happy, Clarissa.” He touched my cheek. “Whatever your decision, we will always be on your side.”
My departure turned out to not only make my own life suffer, but also the family that lost me. They have been sad for a long time, hopefully our lives will go well. If any problems would come, hopefully we are not separated anymore.
I woke up in the morning due to a severe shock to my body. Grandma pulled my hand so I could sit down and opened my eyes. Grandma forces Charlotte to wake up. Half refused, we followed their request to take a shower.
After breakfast, there are some people who are ready to give us body care. I gaped in disbelief as Charlotte cheered happily. This is the first time I have received treatment from my hair to my toenails.
“Wear this shirt, so your hair color will be more visible.” Charlotte put a yellow dress in front of me. “Oh, Clarissa! Hadi will definitely love to see you wearing this! Come on, change your clothes! Grandma and Grandma will help you dress up.”
Charlotte has a point, too. The color of this dress makes me look beautiful. Of the many clothes in this room, can he find the right clothes? I've been here for almost an hour and I don't know which clothes to wear yet.
Aunt Qiana and Aunt Darla arrive first. They immediately gathered in Grandma's room after helping me dress up. I used to put on my own face. Maybe they just want to change every time when they're not by my side by spoiling me.
I went down the stairs when Hadi's family came. I smiled and waved my hand at him, but he was busy looking around and not paying attention to me. He still didn't notice my presence until I greeted him.
Ever since we found him alone with Wyatt in the living room yesterday, Hadi's attitude has been very strange. I knew that something had happened, but I appreciated his decision not to say anything to me.
Then everything became clear, when Charlotte asked us to gather in the living room. Wyatt is Finley Taylor's accomplice. The same man who separated me from my family. The shameless man came to see me and claimed to be my father. To what extent would that brash man hurt my family?
Was she lacking enough to make us all grieve over the loss of Papa and Mama in the accident? Where did his conscience go to kidnap me and leave me to that irresponsible couple? And when we were about to reunite, he paid the lab to manipulate the results of the first test. He's not sane. It was fortunate that Grandma and Grandpa acted quickly by bringing their own confidants to do a second test.
Now he dares to play around with my sister's heart. Charlotte's been missing a lot since she was a child, and she has to lose her love as well? So mean. If I get a chance to meet that guy in person, I'll break his hand.
I was too angry at Wyatt for hurting my sister. Just last night she told me about her kindness, the sincerity of her love, and today she has to accept the fact that the young man is a liar. This is so outrageous. I thank Dira for taking my sister back to her room, because I can't do it.
My eyes could not be separated from Wyatt who dared to look at my sister with compassion. Without finding out the real facts first, she dared to approach my sister to break her heart. He's a lot worse than that guy named Finley.
It was only a short while after Dira and Charlotte came out of the living room that a panicked cry from Dira called out my sister's name and asked for help. Everyone immediately stood up and rushed out of the room. And Wyatt too. But I immediately held his hand.
“You better keep your distance from my sister. He doesn't want to be in a room with you. Let us take care of him,” I said firmly.
“Clarissa,” please try to persuade me.
“Shut up here or I'll break your legs,” threatens me seriously.
