He's The Unaffordable

He's The Unaffordable
Chapter 181 - Acting Adult

We were supposed to be getting ready for the event we were going to hold the next day. But I have no spirit to do it. Mama and Adi just kept quiet when I came home and rushed upstairs. They didn't try to disturb me in my room. Things I am so grateful for. I want to be alone right now.

My bedroom door was knocked, I peeked at the digital clock above the nightstand. At seven o'clock exactly. Did Mom come to take me to dinner? Feeling someone sitting by my side, I turned my head. It turns out that Papa with his serious face. I swallowed heavily.

I sat down and leaned on the head of the bed. I lowered my head, not daring to look into his eyes. “Pa,” gently sweep.

“So, you still consider me your papa? I think you no longer care about me,” he said in a cold tone. A tone he never used on me. I didn't answer. “I was silent when you visited Reese, not because I didn't know and allowed you to act so foolishly. I'm trying to understand. But you came to see Laras. What are you thinking? He is the most hated person at this moment.”

Most hated? Oh, dearGod. I didn't think about it. All the media reported the accident and people responded cynically. They hope Laras will get a death sentence or life imprisonment. If they find out I'm meeting him …. “Ma-forgive me, Pa.”

“I don't care if you ruin my reputation, but don't risk your own life. What if a student's parents see you coming there? They can misunderstand you and think you are friends with them. What about Adi? He could lose friends and teachers would have a hard time protecting him from bullying at school,” Papa said.

I sobbed. “Really, Pa. I'm sorry.”

“I understand you care about others, even those who have done evil to you. But being nice should also be in its place, dear. How can I release you, if you can't protect yourself?” papa said still with his serious attitude.

“You will soon be married, then leave this house and become the responsibility of your husband. But if you don't change as well, you will only add to your own enemies. Start being an adult, son. Do not feel sorry for others, let alone bad people. You must watch yourself first.”

The door is knocked, then opened. “Evening is ready. You can continue your conversation later after your stomach is filled,” Mama said. Papa just stared at me for a moment, then went past Mama. “Come, darling. We eat now.”

Not wanting to make Papa angry, I said. We went down the stairs together. Mama didn't say anything, so I didn't want to talk either. Brother and Adi looked at me in confusion. They turned their heads towards Papa who was still cold-faced. No matter what my behavior since I was a child, this was the first time Papa was angry with me.

We ate in silence, no one dared to open the conversation. I thought hard about what I should do to keep Papa from getting angry again. I know that I was wrong. But the cold war with Papa was a great disaster. I don't want Papa to let me marry Colin because of my mistake.

Mom looked at me. He gave me a signal I knew about immediately. I glanced at Papa who was busy himself with his food. No. gabe. That way won't work. I've done it in the room, Papa's still angry. But Mama kept giving me the signal.

Papa had finished eating, he stood up from his seat. My mother was getting angry when she gave me the signal. I gave up on following his plan. I sobbed. Papa did not care and continued walking towards the door. I cried out loud so she could hear it. Papa's steps stopped. I'm getting my voice hard.

“That's enough, Dira. Don't cry anymore,” said Papa furiously. I'm crying more and more. “You've made a big mistake, so crying won't make you excused.” When I thought that Mama's plan wouldn't work, Papa clucked, then walked over to me.

I immediately stood up and welcomed his embrace. “I'm sorry, Pa. I'm really sorry. I won't make the same mistake again. I promise.”

“OK. I forgave you. Instead, it is your mother who will get a lesson for your actions,” Papa said in a threatening tone.

“Lo? What's my fault, baby?” mama's words imitate Papa's confused ways whenever Mama gets angry. “Am I wrong if I want my home atmosphere to always be peaceful?”

“You were wrong for suggesting your daughter to take advantage of my weakness,” Papa said. He let go of his embrace, then looked at me seriously. “Dira, this is your last chance. Don't disappoint me again.” I promised him.

Papa was still suspicious of me, but he seemed satisfied with my answer. We left the dining room to the family room. Me and my two brothers were busy with our gadgets, while Papa and Mama were watching movies together.

I can't blame the bodyguards that Papa placed near me or Om Zach. They just do their job. After all Om Zach is a parent too. She must have known what it was like when one of her children hid something from her. Especially if it could harm her own child.

Papa has the right to find out what I did today and scold me if I make a mistake. I can't act rashly anymore. Papa today forgave me, but the next day, I didn't want to imagine it. I don't want Papa to be angry with me anymore.

When we entered the room, I met Brother in his room. He had changed his clothes and the room was filled with the scent of his bath soap. I sat by his side on the sofa. There were warm drinks and snacks for the three people on his desk. It seems like he had guessed that Adi and I would come here.

“You have made Papa and Mama quarrel with great earlier. Don't do that again,” said Big Brother in a serious tone. “You will only harm yourself.”

“Iya, Brother. I'm really sorry. I didn't think long when it came to that police station,” I said quietly. I deserve to be reminded of this. Big brother was busy with the tablet whose screen he was sliding endlessly. “What is Brother doing?”

“Help Om Irwan looking for news about your carelessness today,” he said casually.

“To be that bad?” I just don't believe it.

“Om Irwan and his team were forced to overtime because of you,” added Brother makes me feel even more guilty.

The door to Brother's room opened, and Adi entered with the tablet in his hand. “Either they were all fools could not see Kak Dira behind her sunglasses and mask, but there was not a single news regarding her visit to the police station.”

“Hopefully no one sees me,” please me seriously. I pull out my phone and come looking for news or posts that have something to do with me. “By the way, I'm sorry I didn't check the final preparations for tomorrow's event.”

“Not a problem. Everything has been ready since this afternoon. Hence Kak Hadi was angry, he could not pay a visit to Clarissa's house.” Adi laughed satisfied. The brother refrained himself from getting angry.

We all know about this special event for Papa. Only Papa does not. He thought that we were just inviting people and eating together in the front hall. But we prepared more than that. All preparations will begin once Papa leaves for work. So, he would not see anything at the time of the morning run.

I can't concentrate on attending the lecture, because I can't wait to attend the event tonight. Charlotte, Wyatt, and Wendy didn't stop teasing me who kept looking out the window. But that doesn't diminish my happiness.

“Don't forget to come before seven p.m. See you later!” I told them when we got home from college. I waved my hand and rushed into the car.

The front hall of the house is beautifully decorated. Table and chairs were also available in the room. The dining room and banquet hall doors are left open so that guests can walk, stand, and sit wherever they want.

The tent is set up in the garden next to the house. Tables and chairs are neatly arranged, as well as serving tables and some flowers as decorations. I checked out the birthday cake we ordered specifically for Papa. Everything's been sorted out.

The first people to arrive were our grandparents. They were very handsome and beautiful in their official clothes. It must be Grandma Naava who had the idea to pick up Mama's people so they could come together. My friends came with food in their hands. Their husbands will definitely catch up after work.

But there was one person whose presence I did not expect. Mama and I were both hysterically screaming to see her coming among Mama's friends.
