He's The Unaffordable
Chapter 177 - Feeling Guilty

*Hadi*

After lunchtime, Tegar asked me to accompany him and the intern to visit one of our stores. I followed and we divided them into two groups. One followed me, while the other was with Tegar.

After going around and observing the things they could use as a promotional event, Tegar and I regrouped. He gave them instructions, then we got back to the car. The atmosphere of our office was quite boisterous when we opened the door.

“Hadi!” call our manager. I'm approaching him right away. “You should go home soon. There was an accident at your sister's school gate. Mr. Mahendra has contacted you repeatedly, but you did not answer.”

I immediately complied and entered my room. That's where the thing I didn't notice was. I left my phone on the table. After putting all my personal belongings into the backpack, I rushed out of the room towards the parking lot.

Conditions that make the employees in the marketing division I can finally understand. They must have heard the news about Adi. Is she okay? Oh, dearGod. I hope he's not as hurt as Clarissa. No. gabe. I don't need to worry. Papa brings Adi home, which means he is not seriously injured.

Nearly two hours into the traffic, I finally arrived home. Kafin came out the front door and helped me get the car into the garage. Where is Pak Sakti? Is she okay? Mr. Abdi told me where my family was. I rushed to Adi's room.

Papa and Mama sat on the edge of Adi's bed who was fast asleep. They look worried. I approached and they looked at me. “Adi just fell asleep,” Papa said as he stood up. “We'd better go to another room.”

I obey. My mom and dad walked in front of me. I closed the room slowly so that Adi would not wake up. They went down the stairs, so I could already guess they were about to enter the living room. Mr. Abdi helped open the door and announced that dinner would be ready in five minutes. Papa nodded.

“Where is Dira, Pa? Has he not come home?” I was confused looking around us. He usually gets home earlier than me.

“He just went to Colin's apartment,” Papa replied slowly. He looks so tired.

I was immediately alarmed to hear that sentence. Colin drove and picked up his sister from school every day. Did something happen to him? “What is Colin or Lily injured?”

Papa shook his head slowly. “Thankfully, they are fine too. But Dira was very worried after seeing the state of Adi who was shaken heavily. So, she went to see the state of Colin and his sister.”

Ooo. So, that's why Pak Sakti isn't home. He must have taken Dira there. “What really happened, Pa?” I can tell from the news media, but Papa always knows more in detail than all the media.

“Irwan still finding out. According to Colin, this car suddenly drove quickly in front of him and hit the wall of the Adi.” school gate Papa was silent for a moment. He had trouble continuing his explanation. I waited patiently. “From the last news delivered through the news, there were twenty people who were victims. Eleven schoolchildren killed on the spot.”

Oh, dearGod. They're all young. Young children who still have many dreams and hopes that they want to achieve. All of that was simply destroyed, because of the carelessness of a car driver. But I sighed in relief, Adi survived the fatal accident.

“Adi not hurt at all. But he was very shaken, so I called Andreas to give him a tranquilizer.” Papa was silent for a moment, as Mama sobbed. “She managed to dodge the car, but not with the students walking on the sides and behind her. He keeps feeling guilty, because he survived whereas they didn't.”

“Those years I also attended school there, this never happened. What does the driver do to speed in the school district? Especially at school hours. Oh, dearGod. Eleven lives lost it is not a small amount.” I combed my hair with my fingers on my right hand. “Is it possible that he is targeting someone specifically?”

Papa shook his head. “Irwan still finding out. I can't go to the police station to see the culprit. Your sister needs me more.”

“If he did that on purpose, you should have Zach punish him as much as possible. Are you listening to me? Because of him, my son to cry as sad as that,” said Mama.

“Of course, Za. He will definitely get the most severe punishment.” Papa kisses the side of Mama's hair. “We eat now?” ask Papa to me. I'm nodding.

We eat in silence. I knew that Mama had no appetite, but she forced herself to finish all the food that Papa put on her plate. After taking a shower and changing clothes, I called Clarissa. Before I said what happened, he already knew everything from the news he had watched with his grandmother.

“Why are you asking so?” He asked back, and it was a sign that something had happened that made him unhappy.

“Did your grandmother scold you for cooking a lot of food, but I didn't come?” tanyaku.

“Did you forget Wyatt? She happily ate all your pizza and pastel parts.” He laughed amusedly. “I'm fine, baby. Maybe I'm exhausted, because cooking a lot of food for the young man I love.”

If only I could see his face now. We couldn't do it, because he couldn't see the buttons on his phone yet. So, I'll have to wait for him to call me. He knows where my number is. After unlocking the screen with the fingerprint, he simply touched the symbol I designed, then we connected.

Adi looks fresher in the morning. We didn't discuss anything that happened at the school. Mama shared her plans to meet with Official Aunt later this afternoon to discuss her new book project. Dira and I scrambled to inform us of our plans at the office and campus.

“I'm fine. You all need not worry. The incident is still clearly imagined, but I will not be hysterical anymore.” Adi smiled sadly. “I survived the disaster, because God knew Mama would be very sad if she lost me.”

Mama sobbing. He stood up and approached my sister. We cry with them. Not just Mama. I'm not ready to lose my brother so soon either. Me, Dira, and Papa stood up and hugged Adi. We know there are a lot of people out there crying over the passing of their children and brothers who died, because of the accident. But I don't want to save the guilt of thanking for my sister's escape from the catastrophe. We weren't the ones planning the accident.

Due to the unsustainable condition of the school, teaching and learning activities are eliminated until the teachers and students recover from their shock. Schools also need to repair the wall damaged by the accident. So, Adi had plenty of time to recuperate.

The atmosphere at work was still full of whispers that had to do with the accident the previous day. Just natural. No one can believe that anyone can drive in an unhealthy state. What is more, the victim is a school child.

My phone shook as I prepared to go home. For the next few days, Clarissa wouldn't mind me not seeing her at her house. He understood that my priority right now was Adi. I answered the incoming call.

“Please, ask Colin to come home. Dira. I have to go to the police station and go home after the business there is done,” said Papa who did not wait for me to respond.

I was stunned for a moment staring at the screen of my phone. What happened so Papa had to go to the police station and Dira needed Colin? According to Papa's orders, I called my best friend and asked him to come to our house. I rushed home too.

To accompany me on my journey, I asked Aunt Lindsey to connect me with her granddaughter on a video call. I was stunned when the one who contacted me was Charlotte. Understanding what was going on, I asked her to give her phone to her brother.

“You don't mention which Grandma's grandchildren, so they prank you,” said Clarissa who laughed with satisfaction. “How are you doing, baby? How's your job today?”

I told him about our activities in the office. She also shares her activities with her grandmother. Driving with someone is more fun. Moreover, I can see his face. Traffic that was completely stuck did not make me upset.

Pak Sakti took over the car when I got home. After thanking him, I passed Mr. Abdi who kept the door open. My family was already in the living room with Colin sitting by Dira's side. They enjoy cake with orange juice. I greeted them, then sat down next to Mama.

“What's up, Brother?” ask Dira to me. I just shook my head. “Big Brother's face looks tense. Is there a problem at work?”

“No.” I glanced at Colin. “No problems at work.”

The door opened again, this time Papa came in. His face looks very serious. I stood up and sat down by Adi's side so that Papa could be next to Mama. “Papa also looks tense. Was there a bad incident at the office?” ask Dira while looking at me and Papa alternately.

“This is not a problem at work,” replied Papa slowly. We wait for him to continue his sentence. “This is about the person who has been driving the car crashed yesterday.”
