"It's almost maghrib, Dek. We go home yuk" take Teguh mas. I am still surprised by the words of the Teguh mas earlier, until I forget that the day is getting darker.
"Yes, Mas" I said. Then I got up from my seat and walked away from the saung. Steady walking behind me.
After a while walking, I saw the Teguh mas house that was getting closer.
"Mas Steady go home first. I can go home by myself" I said.
"Ngaco it's you, Dek. Maghrib-maghrib time like this you walk alone" said mas Teguh.
"Mommy's house is not far away anymore. I dare." I said. Although actually a bit horrified also because the streets have begun to desolate.
"How dare you be alone?" ask me Teguh. I'm nodding.
"The road is empty. And passing the funeral as well" said Mas Teguh. It even makes me shiver.
"Ih, teguh mas even nakutin me" I said while shifting closer to the Teguh mas.
But even Teguh laughed. Then walk ahead of me. I followed him from behind.
"This is the road next to me. Putar ilang di brought wewe you know" said mas Teguh scare me again.
I am the one who was scared, directly menjajari mas Teguh steps. I even patted my body.
"Do not be afraid, I was just kidding" said Mas Teguh.
"Ih my Goddamn evil! It's not funny!" I hastened my steps. Leaving teguh mas.
Suddenly at the door of a funeral, I heard the sound of falling objects. Spontaneously I shouted and covered my face with palms.
Mas Teguh ran towards me and reflexively hugged me in fear. Without a second thought, I glued my body with my palm still covering my face.
"Swimming, Deck. It was just the sound of a fallen tree branch" said Mas Teguh as he patted my back gently.
Then I heard a sound of steps approaching me. I close my body and my palms get closer to my face.
Mas Teguh let go of his embrace. I even screamed in fear. He hugged me again.
"Sorry, Sir. My brother is scared." The voice spoke to someone. But I dare not open my face. I really feel scared.
"Swimming, Deck. That's the father of this tomb" said Mas Teguh quietly in my ear.
I ventured to open my face. As my eyes looked at the fathers, who were said to be the guards of the tomb, I cried out hysterically.
Because the faces of the fathers are exactly like the faces of the men in the rain, which I once met when my husband and I Yola and her husband went to Jogja. The difference is that this one doesn't wear a raincoat.
But his eyes and face were very similar. Or it's just my hallucination.
I felt my body go limp for a moment. And my eyes are blurred.
I woke up and found myself in a bedroom. I don't know whose room this is.
I only saw Teguh sitting not far from the bed where I was lying. I smell the wind from my nose.
Then I approached me. He stroked my head and grabbed my hand.
"Are you awake, Dek?" ask me Teguh. I was confused by the question of Teguh. Did I faint?
I'm trying to remember what happened. I vaguely recall the face of the old man I met in front of the tomb earlier. I closed my eyes again.
"Why are you, Dek? Why are you so scared to see these gentlemen?" ask me Teguh.
I shook my head, keeping my eyes closed. Even with my palm.
"Please yourself, Deck. Don't be afraid, it's safe here. There's me, huh?" said Mas Teguh while patting my shoulder.
After feeling calmer, I opened my face which I covered with my palm slowly.
"Don't be afraid. Nothing here" said Mas Teguh again.
I nodded and tried to get out of bed. Mas Teguh helped me to sit down, then gave me a glass of water.
After I took a sip, I started thinking. How do I get home to my in-laws without going through the funeral? I'm afraid I'll see that guy again.
"Kok quiet?" ask me Teguh.
"Mas, there's no other way to my mother's house without passing through the cemetery?" my many.
Mas Teguh frowned. He must be confused by my question.
"There was. But a little far away. Passing the highway" replied Mas Teguh.
"Mas Teguh will take me home on that road?" I asked half to beg.
"could. But we ride the bike, right? My car is being borrowed by a friend" replied Mas Teguh. I nodded in agreement. The important thing is I can go home without going through that funeral again.
"See, I'll get the bike ready first." Then I walked out of the room. Then he grabbed his jacket and motorbike key.
I got out of bed and followed Teguh. Teguh looked at me.
Without comment, Teguh continued his steps. And I still follow him. Like the chick that follows the mother.
He took the motor out of his garage. Then light it to heat the engine.
"I locked the door of the house first" said Mas Teguh. I didn't follow him because it was so close.
"Let's go up, Deck. Careful. If you're still scared, hold on?" mas Teguh said. I'm nodding.
Then the car slowly propelled the motor. My heart's still dag-dig-dug. I dare not look back.
I just stared ahead and held on to the jacket that Teguh wore. All the way I was very tense.
Teguh did not dare to accelerate the speed of the motor. Because I'm so tense in his bonce.
My hand held tightly to my hand. While I dare not look. My gaze focused forward even sometimes I closed my eyes.
"Rilex, Deck. Don't tense. Nothing" said Mas Teguh while patting my hand.
I tried to relax, but the man's face kept haunting me. Until I didn't realize we were in front of my in-laws' house.
"It's up, Dek" said mas Teguh. I was surprised because I was still late in the daydream.
"Yes, Mum." Then I got off the motorbike and walked into my in-laws' house.
Teguh followed me to the living room. The atmosphere of the house. Looks like the tahlilan show is over. I just realized, I've been gone too long.
"You want to make a drink, Mom?" ask me after I sit down.
"Can. Just coffee, Dek" replied Mas Teguh.
Then I walked into the kitchen, made some coffee for Teguh. I saw bi Yati cleaning the kitchen.
"The tahlilan's done, Bi?" my many.
"Already, Mom. It was eight o'clock. Where's my mom from?" ask bi Yati. I was shocked and immediately saw the wall clock.
Nine o'clock. That means I'm gone for almost five hours. And for almost three hours I passed out at the Teguh mas house.
"From the saung this afternoon, continue...." I can't continue my words. The man's face came back to my memory.
I subconsciously dropped the glass containing the hot coffee I had just brewed. And I was screaming hysterically.
"Hhhhkkk....!"
