My brother-in-law My husband

My brother-in-law My husband
Chapter 5

Catherine closed her eyes as she tried to hold back her anger over Marcell's condescending words, but this was Marcell's normal way of speaking. He always demeans and belittles everyone in his life.

However, Catherine foolishly held him back for a long time.

"Marcell, tell me which mall you are at. I'll take Amanda with me" Catherine said.

"Where to take? Dirty shabby motel and I don't know who's hanging around there? Yeah, good luck leaving the fancy place we have" Marcell said.

"Any place is better than staying with you" Catherine replied. "Tell me where you are. I'll take Amanda!"

"Well, if you insist …." Marcell grinned while leaning against the wall. Seriously, he doesn't know what got into him right now. He's still fed up with Catherine, obviously. She could not even see his face as they had when they were together, but a part of him still refused to sign the divorce papers.

"If you want to meet your daughter, go home or you can meet her at my mom's birthday party tomorrow. I'll be there with Amanda."

"You!"

"Not that I want it, but my mom invited you, right? After all, you're his good son-in-law" said Marcell, and his tone was even more humbling. "Oh, how wrong he is."

Catherine bit her lower lip. Marcell put him in a difficult situation.

Obviously, he could not return home as it would be difficult to explain the entire matter to his daughter. Amanda might even ask him to stay. He had no idea what Marcel would do at home.

So, the only option he's got is at Marcell's mom's birthday party tomorrow. She can take Amanda somewhere before telling her slowly that they will live apart from her father.

"So where are you going to meet Amanda? Home, or my mom's birthday party?" ask Marcell. "It's either one of those places or you don't see it at all."

As Marcell made an offer, Catherine gritted her teeth. This man still had the courage to play a little drama game with her when she was done with him. Obviously, she's not going back to Marcell's house because Marcell is going to use Amanda to hold her hostage, telling Amanda to start questioning her mother until Catherine doesn't have the heart to leave.

"You're so funny, Marcell. I thought I'd given you a golden opportunity to fuck your secretary as you please. Shit, you can make love to anyone without feeling guilty—you did not have any guilt in the first place," Catherine sneered.

"Hmm? I'll still fuck my secretary after all this 'escape' you've done. I just don't want my daughter to think that she's lost her mother" answered Marcell lightly, seemingly unconcerned by anything Catherine tried to say.

"He will never lose his mother, but he has long since lost his father!" catherine replies when she realizes that Marcell is not taking her seriously. "Well, I'm gonna go to your mother's party, and I'm gonna take Amanda with me!"

Biipp's.. Phone connection disconnected.

Catherine clenched her phone and threw it onto the bed while covering her face with her palm. He thought he would soon separate himself from Sebastian's family after this, but Marcell tied him up, easily using his daughter as a strong excuse.

"Fuck, now I have to play a good wife and a happy family with Marcell again" Catherine condemned her own misfortune.

The thing she disliked the most about her mother-in-law was her expectations, as she always expected Catherine to be well-behaved because she was a woman, that all her complaints would be dismissed.

Catherine took a deep breath to calm herself down before giving herself a small boost, "It's okay, Catherine. This will be the last time you meet and get involved with Sebastian's family. All you need to do is take Amanda and take her."

Catherine wore her little earrings before preparing to attend Rose's birthday party today. He orders a taxi online and calls Marcell as he heads to the party site, Sebastian's home.

The phone beeped several times before Marcell picked it up;

Marcell felt his phone ring. He grins.

"Yes?" Marcell picked up the phone lightly.

"Marcell, where are you now? I was heading to your mother's house" Catherine told as she checked the road to estimate her arrival at the mansion.

"Oh, Amanda and I are already at the party. Amanda's with her grandmother right now. My mother has asked me many times about you" replied Marcell. She grinned and lowered her voice for the next sentence, "She said you're a lazy woman who can't take care of you and your family. I mean, he's not wrong."

Biipp....

Catherine hung up again. He actually wanted to have a fight with Marcell on the phone but then realized there was no point. Since he and Marcell are about to split up, it would be best to cut off all the toxicity as soon as possible.

Catherine arrived at the mansion after 30 minutes. He looked at the rows of expensive cars parked around the mansion. But that didn't surprise him. He knew that the Sebastian Family was a high class family for a long time. They were wealthy for generations, and Rose Sebastian became the current matriarch after the death of Lord Sebastian— the late father of Marcell and Marco.

"Wow, all these expensive cars, ." commented the nervous cab driver as he drove Catherine to the front porch of the mansion.

Catherine sighed, "You'll get used to it after a while. They're nothing but sycophants."

Catherine stepped out of the car after arriving at the entrance.

The party was full of chatter. People in expensive suits and dresses talk in groups, about work, life, or who is earning more.

Catherine ignored the judgmental gazes of some women who realized that Catherine's dress was not as expensive as theirs. Some of them pointed at him and whispered to each other. Catherine didn't care about them. Catherine did not take a single expensive dress from her wardrobe because it was all Marcell's gift. So, she was wearing the old black dress she had before marriage, fortunately fitting in.

He stepped straight into the main hall, and a man suddenly walked in and blocked his path, "You really came, huh?"

His ears were burning hearing that sound. Catherine looked up and saw Marcell grinning at her, "But the old dress looks good on you ... Reminds me of the crazy moments we had in my car in college."

"Get rid of your annoying nostalgia, Marcell. Where's Amanda?" Catherine asked while glaring at Marcell.

But the man's eyes were full of arrogance. In fact, Marcell saw everything as a joke. He did not laugh, but a small smile was there.
