This time, the speechless Marcell was speechless. The word sounded old-fashioned in her ears, as she had not heard it from Catherine for a long time.
"Marcell Sebastian, hold my hand and look me in the eye honestly. Do you still love me and still think of me as your legal wife?"
Marcell was silent for a moment. He was not sure how to answer the question that was thrown out of Catherine's mouth.
Back when they first got married, she thought that she would love him forever and have many children with him. Having a family of her own was fun, but when she got pregnant, Marcell became impatient waiting to hook up with sek*s, so she went out and started playing around to channel the passion.
One moment begins the ecstasy of infidelity that drowns him, making him addicted to repeatedly cheating with many women while ignoring his real family. Even after Amanda was born, her habits grew stronger.
Catherine bit her lower lip, and tears started pouring down from the end of her eyes. "good. Then I'll ask you a simpler question."
Catherine stammered.
"Are you willing to fuck me like I was before I got pregnant, and stop playing with women out there?"
The question was not answered by Marcell.
Marcell wouldn't lie that she felt so disgusted even just to think about making love to Catherine when she became fat from being pregnant. Plus, Amanda's years of nurturing made Catherine fatter and unkempt, giving Marcell more reason to sleep with her secretary and even more women outside.
Even after Catherine returned to her original body, she still thought deeply.
Marcell gulped. Her tongue was completely choked right now, unable to answer any questions from Catherine.
Catherine's heart sank when she realized that Marcell could not say anything now. He knew he was unwanted. There is no reason to stay.
"All right then. I take your silence as consent."
"That's a good reason to file for divorce. Sign the letter and I'll handle the rest so you don't bother."
"No!"
Catherine was astonished when Marcell still resolutely refused.
"Then, what do you expect from a loveless marriage like this?"
"If it's about Amanda.
We can take care of him in turns after parting ways, so he doesn't feel lost
his parents are by his side."
"It's that, right?"
"I said no!" Marcell.
Catherine shook her head in disbelief, she could not handle this man at all.
"I can't take it anymore, Marcell."
"You don't want me anymore and you tell me to
stay at this wedding while you play outside. Are you crazy!"
Catherine thrashed again, and Marcell finally released the grip on her wrist. He looked at Marcell still with teary eyes.
Marcell took a deep breath. He looked away and replied, "Do you think I'm stupid?"
"Catherine, I know you only want my treasure after
we're divorced. You will enjoy it with other men, right? Basic sneaky! I won't be fooled by your plans, Catherine."
Marcell. He sounded calm as he accused Catherine of such a thing.
"I don't need a penny of treasure from you!"
Catherine left Marcell and went to their bedroom. He had packed everything in a big suitcase and it only contained his clothes and some bags and shoes.
He returned to Marcell, who was standing still, looking at him like an eagle.
"You better sign the divorce papers quickly. I can't wait to see you in front of the judge."
"After officially divorcing, you can fuck any woman you want." Catherine said. He walked to the front door, and Marcell finally reacted. "Hey, where do you think you can go!"
"Whatever it is, what matters is not here. I'll bring Amanda's stuff after I find a place
stay new. Don't worry, it won't be long." Catherine said firmly.
"Hey! Don't be so naive. You're just a housewife who's not young anymore. You won't get a job. No one wants an old woman like you!" Marcell said cruelly.
Catherine stopped her steps and looked back. She was so hurt that she wanted to cry again. No more tears to shed. He's done with this guy.
"I hope you're aware of what you're saying and won't say the same to the next woman, Marcell Sebastian."
Catherine eventually left the house, leaving Marcell alone in the house they had built together. He called a taxi and asked the driver to go to a nearby motel because he did not have much money.
Catherine turned her head and looked at the beautiful house she cherished so much. He had many memories there, but bad memories outweighed good ones.
Inside the taxi, he muttered lamenting his broken family.
"My little family."
Meanwhile, inside the house, Marcell was still trying to process what had just happened. He sat down on the sofa and put the divorce papers on the table.
He grumbled and put his hands on his head. Did he really say those hurtful things to Catherine just to vent her anger? Her instinct tells her not to divorce him, even though she is not sure if she still loves him or not.
Divorce is not a problem. He had so much money from the company and his legacy. Even if Catherine were to get her half, she would still be wealthy.
Signing this letter meant he could be free from the guilt of having an affair. She can sleep with anyone she likes without consequence after this, and after all Catherine has said that she will take Amanda with her.
He'll be free...
"I should be happy. I can live as I please now."
"But why? Why can't I sign the divorce papers? What happened to me!"
Marcell asked himself as he continued to ponder.
****
Catherine sat in a daze in the taxi. He kept thinking about Marcell and his daughter. He devises a plan that's right in his head, so Amanda won't be too shocked once she realizes that her parents are going their separate ways.
Because Amanda was the real victim here, in every breakup, the ones who suffered the most were the children. Catherine understood the pain of having her parents divorced when she was 15.
"Marcell was where I leaned when my father left me and my mother. He comforts us like heroes."
"But, now...."
Catherine's daydream came to a halt as the sound of the taxi driver resuscitated her.
"Mom, this is the nearest motel. The rent is cheap but the place is small, far compared to the luxury housing where you live earlier."
"Ah, it's okay. Thank you." Thank you."
Catherine paid the taxi driver and took his bag. He stood up for a while, staring at the seedy motel in front of him.
