Ardian tries to digest the meaning of Chayra's words. His heart seemed to be tingled when he heard the girl say so.
"S. Who treats you like an animal?" Finally the question came out because I did not want to be curious.
"Someone.." replied Chayra briefly. Makes an Ardian Baskara even more curious.
"I. Yeah, I know it's somebody. But I mean who's the guy?"
Chayra smile. Ardian instantly averted his gaze when he saw the girl's smile. Although covered in a veil, a smile that contains an electric shock is able to make Ardian wrong behavior.
"It is not good to open the disgrace of God's servant before his own brother." Chayra. "I want to ask your permission to leave the house. Today I have an appointment to meet my friends."
"Lho went away. Why use ask permission all. I don't have the right to ban it."
"Did you forget you were my husband? A wife cannot leave the house without her husband's permission."
"Gue doesn't understand that. If you want to go out, just go out. It's just a bother." Ardian shifted his gaze.
"Thank you for the permission." Chayra went to the dressing room to change her clothes.
"Any.." murmured Ardian. Pondered for a moment and then got up and walked towards the door.
The sighting of the middle-aged woman at the door made her almost topple over in shock.
"God! What's the mama doing here?" Ardian rubbed his chest because his heart was beating so fast.
"Hehehe.. Mommy.. Mom wanted to knock on the door. But, seeing you guys talking, so Mami paused and waited for you to finish first.
"What's wrong?" Ask Ardian ketus.
"Have you apologized to your wife?"
"I'm sorry? apologize for what?"
Renata took a deep breath. "You forgot that you offended him at breakfast."
"That's a trivial matter, Mi. He won't dispute that."
"It can be a habit, son. Apologize first there."
"Always maksa. He wants to go now with his friends. Two will be home."
"It's because he wants to go. You're sorry to take her with you."
"And he bought a car with Papi yesterday. Why buy it if it still bothers people."
"Things...!!"
Ardian poked his lips. If his name is called. That means the mother does not want to be denied again. "Yes, dear Mami.." turned to look at Chayra's whereabouts. "Woi! splinter out, I'll drop."
"Lho, how do you call his wife like that?"
"Mami is chatty. Uda, Ardian wait downstairs." Ardian passed by without waiting for his mother's answer. "Mommy's getting here the more demanding I get. Say this, say that. All must be obeyed.." grumbled as he went down the stairs.
Renata went into the room. Smiling looking at Chayra who came out of the dressing room with her shar'i shirt. "It's so pretty Mami's daughter-in-law. Where's the show, honey?"
"Mh.. Ayra has an appointment to meet with Ayra's friend in Pesantren, Mi. They've been waiting near Kak Ardian Campus." Holding Renata's hand ready to leave the room.
"Then Ardian will drive you."
"Eh, no, Mi. Ayra did not want to bother. Ardian has other jobs too, right?"
"Nothing. He's been waiting for you downstairs."
"Ayra can go alone, Mi."
"He's your husband. So, he must take responsibility for your safety."
Chayra could finally smile. Arguing with his father-in-law will have no end. Renata doesn't want to lose well in anything.
"Are you ready?" Ardian stood up when he saw Chayra in the living room.
"I. I go alone, Brother. Brother Ardian don't bother."
"It's okay. I have no activities either." Glanced at her smiling mother hearing her answer.
"Already, Son. You were delivered by your husband. He'll keep you as long as you're outside."
"But..."
"No word but." Renata shakes her index finger in front of Chayra's face.
"I'll be gone a long time," murmured softly.
"You'll be long or short, it's Ardian who'll take you."
"Don't follow me around like Mami. If I change my mind how?" Ardian looked at Chayra sharply.
"She just doesn't want to be ushered in, Mi. Why did Mami make it?"
"Antar him now or you'll deal with your papi."
"Threat again, threatened again. Ardian departs," grabs Renata's hand and kisses her origin.
"Don't forget to apologize."
"Yes ....."
Along the way Chayra just stared out the window. His mouth looks chatty, making Ardian curious about what he read. Moreover, seeing Chayra continuously pressing the button of a green colored object that is circular on her index finger.
"What the hell is he doing?" Ask because you can't stand it if you don't ask.
Chayra glanced at the man. "Do you know what I'm doing?"
Ardian rubbed his nape with one hand. "Yes, I can't calm down to see that. It's like Mbah Shaman reading a spell." Smiling grimaced, "gue was afraid if you have the intention to read incantations let me fall in love with you."
Chayra gaped in disbelief hearing Ardian's absurd answer. "Astagfirullah, if you speak logically, can you? It can be slanderous if you say it in front of other people."
"What do you mean?"
"Do you know what this is?" Chayra brandished her digital prayer beads.
Ardian squinted his eyes. "That's a mini clock worn on a finger."
Chayra is back. His eyes blinked a few times to recover his awareness of the foolishness of the man beside him.
"You really don't know this thing?"
"Gue told you it was a mini-clock."
"It's called digital prayer."
"Digital ashtray?"
"Yes, it's called digital prayer beads. You know what it does?" Chayra asked back because Ardian looked confused.
Ardian shook his head slowly. "Gue doesn't know. Don't ask me something I don't understand at all."
"How can you take your wife to his heaven, if this little thing alone you don't know."
Ardian is focusing on driving. His understanding of religion is really lay. You could say that he is only Islamic ID card.
"This thing I use to calculate the number of istighfar, tasbih, tahmid and tahlil me."
Ardian exhaled violently. "That's another term you use. I told you, I don't understand things like that."
"If you want to understand, learn. It's not too late now. If you intend to change to become a better person, then learn from now on."
Ardian is unmoved. Every speech Chayra as if piercing his heart and forced to dwell there.
*********
Ardian was sitting on a bench next to three girls who were discussing for some reason. He just stole listen. There was much she did not understand because the three girls mixed their language with Arabic.
Let alone Arabic. Ask the Hijaiyah letter that stands like a pole, the man will say he does not know.
Ardian thinks that Chayra will meet Alesha and Tina. He had already devised a plan to inquire about Amira's whereabouts. However, he was very disappointed that the two wide-veiled women his wife had introduced him to. Ardian was unfamiliar with that face because it seemed like the two girls were from Pesantren.
From the things he could hear, it seemed like his wife was discussing the lecture materials.
Ardian widened his eyes as the woman sitting behind him casually shook herself.
"Did I not look wrong, Ayra?"
"What?" Chayra who was writing something looked up and stopped her activity.
"Your husband.."
"What's wrong with my husband?" Chayra whispered to Saras one of her friends.
"Your husband is far from expected. He is like the earth and the sky compared to Brother Ghibran."
"Astagfirullah, don't say a no-no. I'm comfortable with him." Chayra replied calmly.
Ardian breathed a sigh of relief at his wife's reply. At least his wife did not talk about his vices to others.
Sadar Ardians...
Your wife's not that bad. You just need to introspect.
