One Night in a Hut of Suffering
The sun slowly began to set in the western upuk. The colors of the violet are beautifully painted in the afternoon sky of the village of Cijambu. Slowly, the area of the village began to be enveloped by the darkness of the night. Then immediately there was a low boisterous sound of adzan magrib who reverberated from the mosques around the settlement reminding the Muslims and Muslims to immediately establish prayers and glorify the name of the creator. The night began to come and now it was time for them to rest in the contest.
When the night has arrived, the grandmother always reminds her two grandchildren to learn and do not forget to do PR if given PR from school, before they sleep.
It seems that this time Tegar and Aisyah are having PR from their respective teachers so that they both seem to still be studying together in the central room area of the hut which still uses incandescent lights as lighting.
Although the lighting in the middle room is not optimal because it still uses incandescent lamps instead of fluorescent lamps whose rays can be brighter, the light can be brighter, but it did not dampen the spirit of Tegar and Aisyah to study at night, the only time where Tegar and Aisyah had the opportunity to reopen the textbooks.
Tegar always tried to help his sister to do PR, but if he had difficulty answering questions from the sister regarding the PR, he would ask the matter to his grandmother. It was the grandmother who had been their guiding teacher while in the hut.
Fortunately, Aminah's grandmother was very patient and painstaking in teaching her two grandchildren. So that whatever questions asked by his two grandchildren will try to be answered as much as possible by him.
Currently Tegar has sat in the 6th grade of SD which means he will soon face the national exam and school graduation, while Aisyah is still in the 3rd grade of SD. They both attended the same school, which was about 500 meters from where they live. The name of the school is SDN 1 Karangkulon.
They can go to school there because the school is already free by the local government. Only, there are always additional fees charged by the school to its students in the form of LKS purchases, sports uniforms, dues for certain events etc.
As for the cost of SPP, it has been 100 percent borne by the local government so that it is no longer charged to parents of students.
They attended the school from Monday to Saturday starting from 07.00 Wib– 12.00 Wib. And for lunch break time lasts for 15 minutes starting from 10.15 – 10.30 Wib.
When Tegar was looking solemnly working on his Mathematics problem, he suddenly felt disturbed by the noise of the younger brother who was reading Indonesian books in a loud voice.
“ON SUNDAY MY MOTHER AND I WENT TO THE MARKET TO BUY NEW CLOTHES.” said Aisyah by memorizing spelling reading when she was busy reading an Indonesian textbook that she borrowed in the school library.
“Dek,,, don't be hard dong read it.” Tegur the brother was upset because he felt his concentration was disturbed by the loud voice of his sister who was reading it.
Regardless of the reprimand from the sister, Aisyah resumed her book reading activity.
“WE DUDA RIDE A DELMAN FROM THE FRONT OF THE HOUSE TO THE MARKET.” said Aisyah remained with a loud and loud voice.
Upset because his reprimand was not digubris by his sister, Akhrinya Tegar also complained to the grandmother.
“Neck,,,grandmother....Aisyah ni nek read her book aloud so Disturb Tegar who is learning.” cried Rigid complained to the grandmother who was in her bedroom.
“Asaan sak,,, hmmmmmmm.” snapped Aisyah did not accept the complaint.
“Candles sound why! Brother interrupted nih.” orders of the brothergeram.
Moments later the grandmother who was in her room came to them and said.
“Have not fought continuously. You are sisters - brother should get along.” said the grandmother advised both. Then he asked to be strong.
“Why Hardcore?” tanyakanya.
“This is granny, Aisyah read her book out loud when it was hard to think again to ngisi about Mathematics. Because of the noise of the Rigid so hard to think about to answer the answer.” lamented to the grandmother.
“Huuu,, basically a brother who can not answer. Ko so on Aisyah.” Typal Aisyah was furious, apparently still did not accept the complaint.
“Already.” said the grandmother broke up. “Aisyah, read the book in grandma's room aja yuk. Leave Mr. Tegar here alone so he can concentrate on doing his PR. You also do not want it if you who are doing PR continue to be bullied by your brother?” said the grandmother.
“Iya nek, alright Aisyah moved to the room.” replied Aisyah while then walking towards the grandmother's room.
“Tegar,....after finishing PR, you must immediately sleep yak nak so that tomorrow the wake does not oversleep.” the grandmother's order advises.
“Good nek.” replied Hardcore briefly and immediately concentrated back to work on its PR.
Some time later, Tegar finally finished working on his PR and he quickly went to the other room to sleep. Meanwhile, Aisyah and her grandmother were still awake in the other room,
“Aisyah you haven't sleepy son?” asked the grandmother who seemed to have laid her body on the bed of her room.
“Not yet, Aisyah has not drowsy.” replied Aisyah was heard continuing to read the book while sitting on the floor close to the bed.
“Aisyaaah,,,,Aisyaaah!, you do look like your mother nak.” said the grandmother with a smile and got up from lying down.
“Like why nek?” asked Aisyah curious and langasung stopped her book reading activity.
“Your mother back when she was a child also loves to read like you. Indeed the fallen fruit will not be far from the tree heeeeeeee.” Said the grandmother while then laughing.
“Nek, Ibu Aisyah pretty no granny?” Aisha asked back.
“Iya Aisyah, Your mother is a beautiful woman just like you are beautiful.” replied the grandmother.
“Aisyah can see more photos of mom?” tanyakanya.
“Before yak, grandma take a photo of your mother.” replied the grandmother who then took a photo from behind her mattress and showed it to her granddaughter.
“This is a child, this is a photo of your mother.” said the grandmother.
He held the picture of the mother by Aisyah and then said,
“Keep according to grandma is Mom dear to Aisyah?” tanyanya polo's.
“Why are you asking like that, son? of course your mother loves you very much and also to your sister.”, said the grandmother assured the grandson.
“If I really love you why don't you come home to see me?” ask again.
“Not want to go home but not yet time son. One day your mother will definitely come home to meet you and your sister.” replied the grandmother berkilah.
“But.....!” unfinished Aisyah said suddenly the grandmother cut her words.
“It's too late son, it's Aisyah's time to sleep. Tomorrow Aisyah will have to go to school.” between the grandmother.
“But Aisyah still wants to hear the story about Ibu.” exclaimed Aisyah who looks disappointed.
“Iya, we continue the story next time yak son. Now you have to go to bed.” said the grandmother.
“Promise yak nek. Alright Aisyah is going to sleep.”.
Aisyah then moved from her place and climbed on the grandmother's mattress to sleep. Not long after, Aisyah also appeared to sleep. For children the age of Aisyah langung asleep in a short time is a simple matter.
Indeed, basically children like Aisyah will fall asleep immediately after they close their eyes while lying in a place that they consider comfortable. Seeing Aisyah who had fallen asleep right next to him, the grandmother then took a blanket and slipped it into Aisyah's body.
He kissed the sleeping grandson on the forehead and said,
“You have started growing up Aisyah, now you have started to find out about the whereabouts of your mother. Grandma has started not being able to find any more reasons to avoid questions about your mother that you often ask grandmother. Sooner or later you will know what really happened. Be patient, boy, be a tough woman.” said the grandmother while looking her eyes glazed. Then he repeated the word:
“I'm sorry grandma, once again forgive grandma nak.”.
Then the grandmother put her body on the bed and lay beside Aisyah to sleep with her granddaughter.
The time of dawn prayer which is the time where the grandmother of Aminah usually woke up every morning has not arrived but this time the grandmother of Aminah suddenly woke up from a short sleep it was caused by something. He woke up because he heard the sound of screams and cries coming from the grandson who turned out to be delirious.
In his screams Aisha constantly called out to her Mother,
“Ibuuuu,,,,huuuuuu..Ibuuuuuuu,” shouted Aisyah while keeping her eyes closed.
“Cup..cup..cup..cup.nak.” said the grandmother tried to calm the delirious grandson.
“Ibuuuuu,,,,huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.” shouted Aisyah while sobbing.
“Cup..cup..cup..nak, who is patient yes son. Poor you Aisyah, surely you miss your mother very much.” said the grandmother slowly while looking worried.
Aminah's grandmother immediately stroked Aisyah's forehead while trying to calm her down.
Finally, a while later, it was no longer heard shouting from the grandson so that he could resume his sleep. But his eyes that had opened were now unable to close back to continue his sleep that had been disturbed. As a result, he decided to get out of his bed and went to the bathroom to get water and continued with Tahajud prayer.
The wall clock hanging in the corner of the simple room still shows at 03.30 Wib when Aminah's grandmother had finished working on the last rakaat of 2 rakaat night prayer that she was founded at that time. After he finished saying his greetings he then prayed to the creator right in the third of the night.
The time according to some people is believed to be the most appropriate time to pray because at that time the door of the sky is open so that the prayers offered by his servants will go directly to the creator who dwells on the arash.
With a sitting position while resting on a prayer mat complete with a face that he still wears after Tahajud prayer a moment ago, Aminah's grandmother immediately began her prayer, he said,
“Ya Alloh, give us patience and fortitude in living this life. Give us strength to be able to face all the trials of life that you give us.” he said starting a prayer.
“Ya Alloh strengthen the hearts of my grandchildren, Rigid and Aisyah. Give them sincerity, give them patience, give them happiness they have not felt so far. If Nurhayati, my only child, the mother of my grandchildren is still alive, then protect her. Give him safety. Give him enough fortune to be able to meet his children who have missed his presence. But when he dies, accept all his good deeds. Forgive his sin and make his grave clear.” he said with tears in his eyes, he let the atmosphere of silence for a while and then continued his prayer.
“Pun for your servant Yes Alloh. Give your servant health, a healthy fortune and give this servant a long life at least until Tegar and Aisyah can be independent in living life. But when my time is up, make me solemnly khotimah. And send protectors to my two little angels so that they may not be swayed without purpose in the midst of this vast ocean of life. Amin.amin ya robal alamin.” limb of the grandmother who then rubbed his hands to the face to close his prayer that night while shedding tears.
After finishing the evening prayer and praying, Aminah's grandmother decided to start cooking rice in the kitchen while waiting for the dawn prayer time to arrive. Aminah's grandmother feared that she might resume her sleep, he would wake up late and did not have time to prepare breakfast for Tegar and Aisyah who had to go to school early in the morning considering their school distance is quite far from where he lived and they must walk on foot.
He then walked out of his bedroom to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
Some time later, the sound of the dawn Adhan had begun to be heard reverberating to break the silence of the village shortly after Aminah's grandmother finished preparing breakfast for her two grandchildren in the kitchen. The time did not seem to have shown at 04:50 Wib. He then moved from the kitchen to get water again.
After completing the ablution of Aminah's grandmother directly set up 2 rakaat morning prayers. After finishing the morning prayer, then he woke up his two grandchildren who were still sleeping in their respective rooms.
Aisyah slept in the same room as him while Tegar slept in the other room that was used by the mother and father when they were still living together in the hut,
“Aisyah,, wake up son, it's time to shower then pray dawn and get ready to go to school. Let's wake up son!” exclaimed the grandmother while shaking Aisyah's body to wake up.
“Good nek.” the answer is short while looking still sleepy.
Then the grandmother walked to the other room to wake Tegar,
“Tegar,,, wake up son, let's take a shower then pray dawn and get ready to leave for school.” command.
“Before soon, Tegar is still sleepy.” replied Tegar who was still reluctant to move from his bed.
“Come on, don't be lazy. Get up and take a shower.” orders the grandmother again.
“Good nek.” he replied as he was seen starting to get up from his bed and walking towards the bathroom.
After successfully waking up his two grandchildren, Aminah's grandmother returned to the kitchen to clean up their eating place. Then suddenly there was the sound of Aisyah saying from the direction of the bathroom.
“Nek, the water in the barrel is empty.” cried Aisyah when she found out that the water reservoir in the bathroom was no longer filled with water. That means he must draw water first through the hoist well in the bathroom.
“Please ask your sister to be brought water son. Grandma is busy cleaning up in the kitchen!.” replied the grandmother by shouting also from the kitchen.
“Fresh,,,Fresh...!” exclaimed the grandmother who was in the kitchen area of the hut, heard shouting to call Tegar.
“Iya nek, what's up?” reply Tegar while walking over to the grandmother.
“Please save water for Aisyah there, the reservoir barrel is empty he said.” The order
grandma explained.
“Good nek.” lever.
Tegar finally helped hoard water for his sister. After the barrel of the water reservoir is filled with water, they then take turns to bathe.
“If you have taken a shower, immediately change the uniform and go straight to the kitchen to eat yes son.” shouted the grandmother from the kitchen.
“Iya nek.” answer them compactly from their respective rooms.
A few minutes later, they were wearing full school uniforms, and then heard the
grandma asked them from the kitchen.
“Tegar,,,Aisyah, have you guys finished wearing her uniform?” ask the grandmother who was preparing breakfast dishes in the kitchen of her hut is very simple, just make sure to go back.
“Already nek.” replied Aisyah while looking out of the bedroom she used to occupy with the grandmother heading to the kitchen.
Upon arriving in the kitchen, Aisyah immediately took the dishes and immediately filled them with rice. Do not imagine them eating with various types of side dishes available on the dining table like people are on television soap operas.
Every day, they always eat with a very simple side dish. No more than 3 types of dishes are always served every time they eat together.
The dishes include white rice, salted fish and sambal. But if the grandmother of Aminah get more windfall than the results of scavenging junk, she always tried to provide more side dishes that for them are already very special existence in the place of eating namely Tofu and Tempe.
Yes, Tofu and Tempe have become a very special dish for them because it is not every day they can enjoy it.
“Let's sit down and eat right away, where's your foot?” ask the grandmother to Aisyah who has already gone first
arrived at the kitchen.
“Still change clothes nek.” replied Aisyah.
“Fresh are you done changing clothes son?” the grandmother shouted from the kitchen, asking
revert.
“It's bad, but Rigid again tidied up the textbook that must be brought today nek.” said Tegar from inside his room.
“Ya, if you have finished cleaning the textbook directly to the kitchen yes son.” His order.
“Iya nek.” reply Hardcore.
Tegar, who has been wearing full uniform and has finished cleaning his books, immediately joined with his grandmother and sister who had first eaten in the kitchen. He immediately took a plate and filled it with enough rice plus side dishes served that morning.
While the grandmother and Tegar were still trying to finish the food on their plates, Aisyah had finished her meal first. The grandmother rebuked him, too,
“Aisyah you are full nak?” ask the grandmother.
“Already granny, Aisyah is full.” she replied.
“Ya already if you are full, wait for your brother to finish eating first just left for school yak.” he said.
“Iya nek.” replied Aisyah while then drinking a glass of water.
Then Aisha said again,
“Nek,,!” exclaim Aisyah.
“Iya nak.” sahut the grandmother.
“Aisyah can ask something no nek?” ask Aisha to the grandmother.
The grandmother who was trying to chew food with her mouth that was not fully toothed then stopped her activities for a moment to serve the question of her grandson.
“Just ask son, what do you want to ask grandma?” the grandmother immediately asked
back to Aisha.
“Aisyah has a Dad no granny?” tanyanya polo's.
“Of course have nak.” replied the grandmother.
“If Aisyah has a Dad, where does Aisyah go?” tanyanya back.
Hearing the question, the grandmother was silent for a moment. Then he said,
“Your fathers are long gone.” he replied.
“From now on Aisyah do not ever ask again about it to grandma yak nak.” said the grandmother looks a little unable to control her emotions when talking about her daughter-in-law.
“If Mom, actually Aisyah's mother where the hell is she, ko long time ago did not go home?” asked Aisyah with a plain face.
“Why did you suddenly ask that, Aisyah kangen mom?” the grandmother returned behind her many eyes.
“Hhhhhhhhhhuuuuuuuuuu.” suddenly Asiyah also immediately sniffled which made the grandmother a little shocked and worried to see him.
“Kemari kiddo, hug grandma.” said the grandmother to Aisyah who was crying.
Aisyah then hugged the grandmother while continuing her crying in her grandmother's arms.
“Iya Grandma, Aisyah kangen Mom. Aisyah wants to see Mom. Huuuhuuuu.” said Aisyah while crying a mouthful.
“Sabar yes son, you will soon meet your mother. Patience son.” the grandmother tried to calm her grandson.
Then Tegar who had just listened to the conversation the two of them suddenly went along to ask the news of the mother to her grandmother as if the sister asked.
“Iya nek, Tegar also misses mom. Actually the mother went where the hell nek, Tegar also want to know?” ask Harder with great curiosity.
The grandmother looked into the eyes of Steady. From the look of his eyes seemed to radiate a very deep longing for the Mother. But he was unable to answer the question posed by his grandson.
He could only turn his face away and then immediately divert their conversation at that time.
“It's been a child, it's been noon. It's time for you to go to school. Come sooner you are late.” the grandmother's order immediately diverts their conversation without answering the question posed by Tegar earlier.
“Good nek.” replied Hardcore somewhat disappointed.
Meanwhile, Aisyah was seen still crying as a hiccup in the lap of the grandmother. But he finally obeyed the grandmother's order to get ready to go to school with his sister. They then took their own shoes that they kept near the entrance of the hut and then put them on.
The grandmother came to them and said,
“Tegar, Aisyah come here son. This is pocket money for you today.” said the grandmother while giving two strands
each banknote is worth Rp. 1,000 for his two grandchildren.
“Thanks nek.” answer them compactand look excited.
“Be careful on the road yes son, study seriously at school.” said the grandmother advised her two favorite grandchildren.
“Good nek.” timpal they back compact.
Then Tegar and Aisyah immediately rushed to go to school after first kissing the grandmother's hand to say goodbye.
The grandmother then followed them but only reached the terrace of the hut. He then stood next to a pillar of the hut on the porch, looking continuously at his two grandchildren who were walking across the pesawahan to where they were going to school.
Seeing his two grandchildren from a distance, did not feel the teardrop that had been trying to hold that seemed to have slipped on his eyelids suddenly came out unstoppable again wet his cheeks that had been wrinkled inedible age.
Then he closed his mouth tightly with his fingers so that the sound of his crying did not sound loud.
Grandma Aminah was finally no longer able to stem her cries to see and reflect on the fate of her two grandchildren who were so concerned. In his heart he was a barkata,
“Tegar,, Aisyah, forgive grandma who has made you have to bear the economic burden at your very young age. Forgive the grandmother who could not give you happiness. Hardcore, patient Aisyah, son. Grandma pray you will have happiness. You must have happiness and grandma will try her hardest to make you happy. Patient ones, son. Allah sees his servants. He will not give trials to his servant beyond the limits of his servant's ability.” Mumbled Aminah's grandmother while crying continuously and then turned her body to go back into the hut.
