Durjana's In-law

Durjana's In-law
Chapter 5. Wasting

The definition of money for women is basically like running water. After getting a little severance, Hanum had to use the money for daily necessities inside her in-laws' house. This was done at the request of Kasmirah, his mother-in-law.

"My money is running out too. True said people, if we do not work still eat. Where can you eat if you don't work? Ah, I'm dizzy. Unemployment needs to eat too! It turns out that my expenses during this time were also not small," Hanum murmured on the sidelines of his break taking care of the house.

As a wife, Hanum should have kept his personal money. It will be used as a reserve fund when there is a sudden need. However, the concept of Hanum's life had to lose to the demands of her mother-in-law who asked her to pay for this and that. All needs must be Hanum who takes care of it.

While during Hanum's unemployment, not once did Ismawan give him money for daily needs. Hanum wanted to ask, but waited for Ismawan's schedule to enter the morning shift. At least they can do pillow talk without the intervention of her mother-in-law again.

Like today, the day Hanum had been waiting for. On the night when Hanum wanted to rest, he opened some of his grocery notes. He also counted the rest of his money that was running low. He no longer knew what it would be like if his money was completely depleted.

"My salary and severance are this only. Tomorrow if you want to shop again, what should I do? Though I have used the money as well as possible, but still can not cover everything" Hanum murmured.

The money that previously had a nominal double-digit was slowly leaving a piece of blue paper. If used for vegetable shopping tomorrow, then the possibility can run out. It even tends to be minus when it comes to Hanum's planning. Moreover, the price of basic necessities also rose.

It just so happened that today her husband was in the morning shift. In the afternoon he must have gone home. However, tonight has not entered the room because Ismawan still go to coffee with his friends.

As Hanum's turmoil intensified, suddenly the door of the room was opened. Ismawan came in and laid his body on the bed. He looked at Hanum as if he was busy.

"What are you doing, Num?"

"Calculate the shopping money, Mas. I get dizzy every day the need for the kitchen is getting expensive. I just have no income at all. Money for shopping tomorrow alone the remaining 50 thousand doang."

"You are not working. It's only natural that there's no income."

Ismawan was completely insensitive to his wife's words. Maybe he forgot something or needed to be reminded. Of course, that made Hanum surprised.

Initially Hanum looked at the details of his shopping book. Then she closed it and turned to look at her husband.

"You're not very sensitive, Mom. I mean that if I don't work, you should give me some shopping money. All this time I kept quiet, Mas. I thought you had other needs to be done."

Ismawan. Initially, the position is leaning on the headboard and then he sits upright and moves his legs to the floor. Like sitting in a regular chair.

"Num, I really don't understand what you mean. What other need?"

Ismawan is roughing his hair. He was twitching his temple which was starting to get a little dizzy. Hearing the babbling of his wife instead of making calm, even more dizzy.

"Enough, Num! Point is. Don't beat around!" rebuke Ismawan. Though Ismawan just came home to coffee and hope his mind is much fresher. In fact, Hanum even added a burden on his head.

"The bottom line is you never gave me the shopping money from the start I did not work until now, Mas. Do you understand that?"

Ismawan closed his eyes for a moment. He tried to remember, where was his mistake all along? Moreover, the obligation of Ismawan to provide shopping money has been done every month. Never even a little miss it.

His salary was partly set aside for transportation, cigarettes, and coffee. Some more are used to buy the quota package of his android phone. The rest was given to Hanum and his mother.

"You misunderstood me, Num. I always set aside my salary for your shopping money. There's no way that you don't take a penny from me. Even every payday I always set aside a minimum of 2 million. Sometimes more than that. Do not use it profusely. You buy some unimportant needs. That's why the money's running out fast."

"Mas, what is this shit? You're hallucinating my love for money, huh?"

"Wait a minute, Num! You may also be used to working in the city. Whatever you buy is the same as when you are in town. We're in the village, Num. That kind of money should have been more, right? Why run out? You are really wasteful!"

Ismawan never knew that the money his mother asked for never came to Hanum. Of course Ismawan could not accuse unilaterally. Moreover, all this time Hanum never discussed his living. So, Ismawan thinks everything's fine.

The money? What money does her husband mean? When did Ismawan give him the money? One rupiah neither Hanum's wallet nor hand received it. Who was the money given to? Did her husband forget that he never gave it to her?

Every payday Ismawan, never once showed his pay slip to Hanum. Especially money. Now Hanum is accused of extravagance. Hanum obviously did not accept it.

"Mas, I don't give you money. Bored of where? I always pay for this house with my own money, not yours. Who did you give the money to? I've never earned a single dollar."

"No way, Num. I give you shopping money every month just like you. You may have forgotten to take it."

I want to say as much Istighfar as possible. Hanum is still a normal human being who remembers everything. Although her mother-in-law kept pressing, but she still tried to maintain her sanity. It was precisely the attitude of her husband who pretended amnesia that made Hanum arrogant.

"Helo, Mommy. I am still sane and normal. You are not starting to forget. I don't take a penny at all."

Ismawan is in conflict with himself. It's impossible that her mother lied. Hanum must have received the money from his mother. Since the money ran out, she made up a story if never endowed by her husband. Ismawan could not understand his wife's mindset at all.
