Bagas walked back and forth in the living room. The man repeatedly glanced at the watch in his hand. The guests started whispering. Some members of the extended family who had come also started to get restless.
Bagas' younger cousin, who also happens to be his neighbor, walked over.
"Mas Bagas, they really want to come, right? It's already past the scheduled time" asked the man in his forties.
"Yes, of course. Let's just wait."
The sky began to darken with cloudy clouds. The wind was blowing a little louder as usual. It also makes the heart of Mayang kebat-kebit. But again, the woman denied her anxiety. He assured himself that everything would go well until that day came.
"Mother, Cha. If you are hungry, eat. No need to wait for the show to start. I see from yesterday eating you less really." Mayang tried to shift his concerns.
However, Mesha only shook his head, without saying a word. The girl plays her fingers.
"Bu ... is Echa cursed?"
Mesha's question made Mayang choke, as he drank a sweet tea that someone sent from the kitchen.
"Where is there? It's bullshit, honey. Who said it?"
"Nobody said it, Mom. Echa only thought of this from yesterday."
"Sir, there's nothing like it! Don't think shit. Everything's gonna be fine. Trust mom."
Mesha looked down deeper. The boisterous sound outside made his head look up. Another reaction Mayang, he was curious about what was happening outside.
A few minutes later, Bagas entered Mesha's room. With a smile sumringah, he reported that the group of candidates had come. There is tremendous relief in Mayang's heart. He was sure that everything would be as good as he thought.
The application event went well. Relax but solemn. The two families began to formulate wedding dates using the Javanese tradition. Market, wuku and others. After all agreed to the specified date, both parties felt relieved.
Guests return home after eating the banquet that the host has provided. The place started to quiet down again, there was only the Sakha core family entourage left and a few people who cleared up the remnants of the banquet.
Sakha's two eyes could not switch from Mesha's face. Polished physical beauty with natural makeup, like hypnotizing the man. This made Yumna, the younger sister, unwilling to lose the opportunity to tease him.
"Mas, hey! The view of Mas Kha tuh dah kayak starving people see pecel rice in the stall. Shame on me" whispered Yumna who was sitting next to Sakha.
"Not to be nosy it's a mouth, can you?" sahut Sakha in a whisper as well.
"Yes, yes ... Yuyum knows, Ms. Mes cuaaantik. But don't do it, be shy!"
Anxiously, Sakha reached out to her only sister's ear.
Hearing Yumna's screech, all turned their heads in the same direction. Knowing that she is the center of attention now, Yumna is just a whimper.
"Dam, malesin! Look out, Mas!" threaten Yumna still in a whisper.
Sakha stuck out the girl's sticky tongue.
"Please understand, Jeng Mayang. That's the child if together that's how it is, fighting continues," interrupted Ningsih.
"His name is also a child, Jeng. But that's what's really exciting. If I had, I only had children. So, yeah .. I've never heard of such a commotion." Mayang patted Ningsih's thigh gently, trying to be more familiar.
All chatted with laughter, smiles and all pleasantries. Not with Mesha. The light on his face still looked gloomy.
Sakha shifted her seat towards the lowered Mesha. The girl was busy rubbing the hairy carpet with her wiggly fingers.
"Kok diem aja, Dek? Usually also chatty in the office, a lot of ask this is it." Sakha opens the conversation with her fiance.
"What kind of talk, Mom."
"Why confused?"
"Everything happened very quickly."
Mesha spoke in a flat and cold tone.
Seeing this, Sakha suspects that Mesha objected to everything.
"Sir, do you regret this?"
"I'm sorry, I'm .. just ...."
Sakha was shocked when she saw a black shadow darting not far from where she was sitting. Until he cut the sentence. Then he shook his head, dismissing the strange thought when he saw the black shadow earlier. The man's eyes returned to Mesha.
Mesha looked up, then looked at Sakha's face. He tried to smile.
"Don't think weird, Mas. We're already at this stage, why hesitate?"
"It's not so .. If you don't agree, it's okay, just say it. Mump is not done yet."
Mesha smiled wryly. He rubbed the hairy carpet again with the tip of his index finger.
"By the way, you don't have to go into the village office anymore, do you, Dek?"
"Yes, Mas. People will gossip when they see me in the office again. It's so lazy."
"Good, don't work. Let me give you a living."
Mesha was not enthusiastic to hear this. He still lowered his head.
"Why do you keep bowing? Am I forbidden to look at your face?"
Mesha's finger movements stopped.
"This isn't my real face, Mas. It's a layer of make up."
Sakha gave a small laugh hearing Mesha's last words earlier.
"You wear make up or not, just as beautiful! I have seen it often."
"Yes, Mum."
Sakha grabbed the hand of Mesha who had been playing the carpet.
"You don't have to worry about everything. Yesterday, I got a letter of appointment. My salary is not much. But I'm sure I can make you happy. I'll try hard for that, Mesha." Sakha tightly grasped the wiggle in her hand firmly.
Yumna looked at the couple with a nosy smile. Again he wanted to tease his sister and future sister-in-law.
"Ecieeeee .. ikhiiiiirrr!"
Yumna's words made those who were still present turn to her, then look at the couple who were sitting not far from the glasses girl.
Judging by the rest of the room, Sakha and Mesha compactly bowed in embarrassment. Then, Sakha pointed her fists at Yumna, who was greeted by the protrusion of the girl's tongue.
As the day wore on, Sakha's family bailed to go home. Mesha's family drove the group to the front road of the house. Mesha waved with a forced smile on her lips.
Sakha was stunned as her gaze unintentionally looked at a place. There stood a man in black clothes. The figure looked at him coldly.
"Le, let's go up. Wait what else? Everyone's in the car." Ningsih's voice shifted Sakha's focus.
"Yes, Mom."
Then, Sakha quickly got into the car.
"So why stand there so long, Le?" ask Ningsih again.
"Sakha saw someone standing across the street, Mom. Stare sharply."
"Where?"
"Wear a headband and all-black clothes, ma'am."
"Why don't you see, Le?"
Sakha was still curious about the figure earlier, while the car was already traveling at medium speed on the highway.
