Autumn In Kent

Autumn In Kent
Operation Options

December is a busy month for the city. Emma has started with the production of her TV show Traditional Textiles for Trendy Fashion, with the first episode discussing Indonesian ikat and batik weaving. Inevitably Puti had to be involved in it. Fortunately there was an Indonesian student, Nita, who had just returned from Indonesia and did not mind to bring weaving and batik, so Emma had no trouble collecting materials.

Meanwhile, his cooperation with Steve has taken up almost all of his time. At first Puti refused to be Steve's partner. He was completely blind about interior design. Planning the decoration for the nursing home that he had done before was only based on instinct alone. Without theory and knowledge that can be accounted for.

The City of Kent commemorates Senior Day. Students living in the dormitory of Gedung L, where the Puti and Emma units are located, volunteered to complete the interior of the nursing home. Since no one was willing to be a planner, Puti raised himself as a planner and led his friends. It just so happens that their efforts succeeded. Their success was covered by several local TV and campus TV. It also made headlines in Kent-based newspaper The Record-Courier.

So that does not mean Puti is proficient in interior design. Steve doesn't want to know. He saw the interior of the nursing home was so perfect. From the walls, wall hangings, floors even to the furniture is so functional and perfect. That was why he insisted on making Puti his partner.

Start Puti struggling with paint, ceramics, lights, and all kinds of home appliances. Once he has free time, he will wander around at Home Depot or shop around on the maket house that Steve has made. While fantasizing about having your own home and decorated itself anyway.

His solid activities make him forget or he deliberately forgets his condition. Conneally's doctor's phone repeatedly reminded him to come to the eye clinic he didn't care about. He forgot blindness threatened him at all times.

Doctor Conneally is not desperate. Puti would not come to him, he came to Puti. He faithfully awaits Puti's arrival at the dormitory. And when Puti came home from Belmont, she did not expect the old doctor to be waiting for her in the lobby of the Management Building.

‘I will not have the operation,’ Puti said as Conneally's doctor stated his intention of arrival.

‘Puti, at least let me explain the procedure and the results that can be achieved with the operation,’ said doctor Conneally patiently.

‘Please, I will listen to it,’ replied Puti. Start doctor Conneally explained at length everything related to eye surgery in the hope that Puti's heart will be open and willing to undergo the operation. But it seems that his noble efforts will be in vain.

‘What is the risk if the operation fails?’ ask Puti when Dr. Conneally is done with his studies.

‘The ugliest risk is that you can't see again after the surgery is over,’ the doctor replied honestly.

‘Then I choose not to live it,’ said Puti.

‘Puti, what I said earlier is the worst risk. Doctors in the clinic have experience doing this kind of surgery dozens of times‘

‘But the worst possibility it could happen?’

‘Listen carefully, Puti,’ doctor orders Conneally firmly. ‘If you do not have surgery, you can make sure your eyes will be blind. But if you want surgery, blindness that may not happen.’

‘Well will I consider, doctor. It was not the success of the operation that I thought. But it was his failure that worried me. If it fails, it means that in a short time maybe I will not be able to see again. I want to be able to see a little longer. ‘

Various kinds of persuasions and efforts to persuade Puti to want to undergo eye surgery none of which succeeded. Puti's decision is as strong as a coral in the middle of the ocean. Unshakable. He said he had the right to choose for himself.

Finally, Dr. Conneally stopped his efforts. He no longer went to Puti. But Puti was so shocked when Steve alluded about the eye surgery that Doctor Conneally proposed.

‘Where did you know about the eye surgery I had to undergo?’ ask Puti. At that time he was in Steve's apartment to talk about the design of the house they arranged together.

‘Doctor Conneally told me,’ replied Steve.

‘Doctor Conneally? He told you?’ ask Puti beaver. ‘Not that it violates doctor and patient confidentiality? He shouldn't have done that. He has no right to tell anyone without my permission. I'll reprimand doctor Conneally,’ Puti continued emotion.

‘Not wrong doctor Conneally, Put. But I was wrong.’ Steve tried to defuse Puti's anger. ‘When I registered you for an eye check first, I introduced you as my future wife. ‘

‘My wife,’ replied Steve did not feel guilty in the slightest. Puti glared her eyes furiously, but Steve calmly continued speaking. ‘Even when Dr. Conneally found it difficult to convince you to have surgery, he asked for my help. The natural thing, anyway I'm your future husband,’ Steve laughed amusedly.

‘You thought you would succeed in persuading me?’

‘There is no harm in trying,’ replied Steve.

‘It's no use, Steve. My decision is round. I don't want to have surgery.’

‘Why?’

‘Because I don't want to be blind now. ‘

‘Puti, have you considered the loss profit?’

‘Already.’

‘I didn't expect you to be that cowardly in taking risks. Do you know if you are already blind then the possibility of being cured is very small?’

‘I already know everything. And I still don't want to have surgery, ’ Puti replied in stupidity.

‘Now leave the talk about eyes. Let's get back to your building,’ Puti diverts the conversation.

‘Well, Steve, where is the list of the cheapest ingredients and alternatives‘

‘You know, stubborn,’ comments Steve while looking at Puti sharply.

‘List of ingredients, Steve,’ said Puti did not ignore Steve's comments. Steve shook his head in a daze then started compiling the requested list and sending it to Puti's email.

After listing all the materials Puti had asked Steve to make a list of workers and the time needed to complete the building. While Steve made the list he asked for, Puti began to make an analysis of material costs. He wants to get the minimum cost possible because the assessment of this design competition in addition to being based on beauty is also based on cost savings.

Steve really admires the way Puti works. Many times he stole a glance at Puti who was busy with calculators and cost analysis formulas. Steve is increasingly convinced that he has chosen Puti as his partner. Makeet building also looks more beautiful after Puti incised paint on the wood, equip it with small furniture and perfect other small things. In addition, Puti has helped him in detailing his costs.

‘This one girl is unyielding,’ thought Steve when he saw Puti frowning deeply sign he was thinking hard.

‘Put, rest when you reach,’ advice Steve feel sorry. ‘You made me a sandwich?’

‘I'm still full,’ says Puti. ‘This work must be completed immediately,’ he continued without moving his attention to the object he was facing.

‘Who requires it?’ ask Steve.

‘I,’ replied Puti as she raised her head. ‘I want everything to be finished quickly so I can go home to Salem soon and enjoy my year-end holiday‘
