Autumn has been going on for over a month. Maple leaves around the University of Kent campus, which in the summer is fresh green, are now starting to be decorated with cheerful yellow, orange and red. Soon the leaves will dry up and decay to the earth. The poor leaves. Only briefly did they get to show off the beauty of their colors before fate determined their other place. Fused with the ground.
Puti who was sitting inside the library stared at the leaves with full admiration. He forgot the book in front of him. His eyes wandered from one tree to another. Ungodly. Suddenly his eyes felt very tired. A second later he saw nothing more. Everything is black and thick. Puti was shocked. For a few moments his heart stopped beating.
‘Yes Lord, restore my sight,’ Puti prayer while taking off her glasses. Then he pressed his clenched eye patch with his index finger. After waiting for a while he opened his eyes again and smiled with relief as he looked at the shadows of the bookshelves surrounding him. Although still a bit vague.
‘I need new glasses,’ he said inwardly.
As soon as his vision returned to normal, Puti immediately packed his books. His intention to study in the library until night he had to undo. He was afraid that something similar would happen again. He put his glasses back on and hurried to leave his seat.
‘Away home, Puti?’ tegur Jane, a librarian in charge of serving students who want to bring books out. Puti nodded lethargicly while proffering some thick textbooks.
‘Please include these books, Jane. I want to read it in the dormitory,’ the door.
‘This much?’ jane did not believe it. ‘You have time to read it?’
‘You know Mr. B, Jane,’ said Puti while smiling wryly. He would not be satisfied before seeing his students half-dead doing his chores.‘
‘Mr. Bilunka you mean?’ jane asked as she scanned the Puti library card in the scanner.
‘Ya,’ Reply Puti. Jane laughed amusedly.
‘Then are you in class with Billy McCroom?‘
‘Billy McCroom? Oh, he's the proverb,’ Puti replied annoyed. ‘Tasks for two weeks she completed in a week. The task for a week he completed a day. Of course the old Bilunka got windy. That is why his tasks are getting more and more unreasonable.
‘Don't be small. Almost McCroom's whole life is up in this library,’ entertain Jane. ‘There he is,’ he continued whispering while pointing to a tall young man in black who was busy choosing a book. Puti held a smile.
‘Tip my book for a minute, Jane. I have something to talk to Billy,’ he said. Without waiting for Jane's willingness, Puti immediately stepped closer to Billy. Billy who was flipping through books was unaware of his presence. Puti clucked three times. Billy immediately looked over. His smile was immediately blown away as soon as he saw Puti.
‘Hallo, Puti,’ said whisper but warm.
‘Hai,’ Reply Puti. ‘Emm .. Billy, I need your help,’ he continued without further ado.
‘What can I do for you?’ Billy asked attentively.
‘You used to offer odd jobs to me, right? I told you at that time that I didn't need a job and if I needed it I would tell you. Well, right now I need a job,’ said Puti smoothly. Billy smiled at the worry expressed on Puti's face.
‘You really need a job or just a fad?’ ask Billy. ‘If it's just a fad I'm afraid no one will accept you.’
‘I really need it,’ says Puti fast.
‘Isn't the scholarship you received enough?’
‘There is another need that is so urgent, Bill.’
‘Alright I'll work on it. I'll let you know the result tomorrow morning. ‘ucap Billy. ‘How long will you work? Permanent or .. ‘
‘Until my salary is enough to buy new glasses.’
‘What?’ billy did not understand.
‘I need new glasses,’ replied Puti honestly.
‘Expectacles are expensive. Not to mention the cost of his doctor who strangled the neck,’ muttered Billy.
‘Then find me a well-paying job,’ suggested Puti with a laugh.
‘How about I find an ophthalmologist to be your husband?’ billy won't lose. Puti did not answer just showing her ring finger. There she coiled her engagement ring. Platinum rings with sparkling solitary diamonds dazzle the eyes. Billy smiled broadly.
Puti glares. ‘He is too valuable to leave,’ he said.
‘Oke, I'll find you a well-paying job,’ Billy promised. Puti was relieved to hear it. He was sure Billy would succeed in getting a job for him. Billy has proven to his other friends that he has a great influence on Kent's small community. All his friends run to Billy when they need money, and Billy can easily channel them to work.
‘Thank you for your help, Bill,’ Puti said.
‘Not how, Puti. I'm glad to be able to help you,’ replied Billy humbled.
‘OK, until tomorrow then,’ said Puti and walked away from Billy.
After picking up the books she left at Jane's desk, Puti comes out of the library. The autumn breeze greeted him warmly and toyed his black hair that was draped to the shoulder.
Walking on the quiet campus streets makes Puti careless. His eyes saw not the path he passed but the trees that inhabited the campus with squirrels that jumped on the branches. He wondered where the squirrels hid in other seasons because they only appeared in autumn. Did they come from the sky, thought Puti while staring at them mesmerized. So excited was he, that he did not hear the cry that someone loudly shouted. He didn't hear anything. Know-how his body was hit by something from behind violently then dragged and slammed on the asphalt road.
‘Are you okay?’ asked a young man who had suddenly crouched down in front of him. Puti turned left and right and saw himself sitting on a collapsed bicycle. He knew he had been hit by a bicycle from behind.
‘You all right?’ repeat the young man again.
Puti regained his senses and looked at the young man in front of him. ‘The most handsome young man I have ever seen,’ thought Puti while judging the golden-haired youth with such a perfect face. His sky-blue eyes looked at Puti anxiously.
‘I think my bones broke all,’ joked Puti while trying to get up. He sat back down because his foot stepped on a tire that immediately spun. As fast as lightning the young man in front of him stood up then extended his hand to help Puti stand up.
‘Sorry, I could not control my bike earlier,’ said the young man after seeing Puti could stand upright.
Puti was anxious to say that he was the one at fault, but somehow he did not say it. He just smiled while holding his painful hip. A moment later he began to gather his scattered books. Seeing Puti pick up his belongings, the young man who hit him helped along.
‘Yes, Lord!’ suddenly the young man cried out in shock. Puti.
‘What's up?’ tanyakanya.
‘I have broken your glasses,’ replied the young man quietly while staring at the Puti glasses in his hands. Puti saw her glasses had cracked the lens. It turned out that the glasses had floated off my face, thought Puti.
‘I have broken your glasses,’ reset the young man as he walked closer to Puti. He handed the broken glasses to Puti. ‘I'll replace it, ‘next.
Puti quickly shook her head. ‘I was wrong earlier. I was too absorbed in watching the squirrels not paying attention to the road. So it's not you who's wrong.’
‘Do not quip,’ replied the young man with a smile showing off his neat and white lined teeth. ‘I was off guard by those leaves.’ Puti looked at him in disbelief. The young man nodded to convince her.
‘Listen ... ‘ connect the young man again. ‘I have to meet one of my lecturers. But it won't take long. Ten minutes at most. Will you wait here ten minutes? After that we can find a replacement for your broken glasses.’
‘I don't want to,’ Reply Puti instantly.
‘How about five minutes?’ the young man bargained. She thought Puti refused because she had to wait too long. Puti laughs amusedly.
‘I told you not to worry about my glasses. My glasses are no longer useful to me so you do not have to bother replacing them.’
‘But I really want to replace it. Otherwise I will always feel guilty,’ denied the young man again while looking at the clock on his wrist. He seems in a hurry. Puti feels pity.
‘Go. Later you are late,’ his advice.
‘But will you wait for me?’ the young man asked for certainty.
‘Alright I will wait for you,’ replied Puti carelessly. The young man smiled with satisfaction then straightened his bike. After ordering once more to Puti that he should wait for her, he immediately ran off his bike. So tight.
As soon as the young man and his bicycle were out of sight, Puti immediately left the place. He needed glasses, but he didn't
the young man bought it. The young man was completely innocent. Anyway broken or not the glasses should be replaced lens. And he is the one who must replace it is not the young man cycling it.
