The name of Ijo Temple is not taken from its green color, but because it is in the hills of Gumuk Ijo, Sleman Regency. The name was confirmed in the Poh Inscription in 906. This temple was built in the era of the Ancient Mataram Kingdom around the middle of the 9th century until the beginning of the 10th century.
The structure of Ijo Temple is a terraced land surrounded by cliffs consisting of 17 temple buildings spread on 11 terraces. The top terrace is a sacred terrace, which contains the main temple with a size of 18.43 x 18.45 meters, and a height of 16 meters. Inside there is a lingga-yoni, which is a cylindrical object or other shape that is enforced stuck on a rectangular shaped object. The lingga-yoni symbolizes Lord Shiva who is fused with Goddess Parvati. The outer wall of the temple contains a niche containing the Agastya statue, the Ganesha statue, and the Durga statue.
In front of the main temple there are three guardianship temples facing east. In the room of the southern guardianship temple measuring 5, 19 x 5, 17 meters, with a height of 6.62 meters, there are yoni and patmasana (stone table). While the central guardianship temple has a size of 6.3 x 5.15 meters, and a height of 6.5 meters, which in the room there are statues of Nandi and Padmasana. The northern regency temple has a dimension of 5.11 x 5.11 meters, with a height of 6.3 meters in which the room there is a sumuran.
